Aim
'+44' is a short mystery/thriller based round a telephone box. Having finished shooting, we hope to raise money for post-production.
Synopsis
A group of kids are vandalising an old telephone box when the phone inside starts ringing. It turns out to be just their mate Nick playing a prank. That is until the phone box calls him back...
How far have we come?
We've been extremely lucky and are very grateful to have been lent professional camera, sound and lighting gear by a couple of friends. This has saved us over £1000 on rental fees!
The majority of the film was shot at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, just outside our hometown of Bridport, Dorset. They were very supportive of the project and only charged us a small fee for use of electricity.
The other locations were also very local. Ben (playing Nick in the film) let us use his house for the interiors and the third location was a slightly rural alleyway nearby.
All of the cast and (most of) the crew are aged between 15 and 17. We've all known each other for some time so it's been great to work on this film together. We hope you will enjoy the final product as much as we enjoyed making it!
Where will your money go?
Our aim is to raise funds mainly for post-production. This will include purchasing hardware for editing, getting the film's audio professionally mixed and having additional help with colour grading and finishing.
Along with this, we hope to get the film screened locally and set aside a fixed fund for submissions to film festivals and distribution.
Some of the money will also go towards reimbursing cast and crew with travel expenses, as well as any wages lost from missing work.
The +44 crew
Hi, I'm Elliot and I'm the writer and director of +44. I started this project in August last year when I was walking past an old telephone box at dusk. The light inside was throwing a dim glow onto the road, giving the place an eerie look. There weren't any cars around and the place seemed so quiet and deserted. I became so obsessed with this image that I knew I had to make a film about it. Sure enough, here we are today! Aside from directing the film I'm also the cinematographer and will be editing it too.
My name is Reuben Squirrell. I am the First Assistant Director and will also be composing the score. I was first introduced to +44 last year when I was invited to write the score and was shown the early draft of the script. My involvement in the project grew and I was appointed as first AD. As first AD, my job was to keep everything moving on schedule during the shoot and to give a second opinion in decision making. Working on set has been great fun and challenging. I am impressed by the production value and look forward to writing its soundtrack.
Hi, my name is Jonty Binks and I was the location sound recordist on +44. I first became aware of Elliot's short film idea around Christmas time last year. I was introduced to the early script which had me on board from the word go due to it's potential. Elliot asked if I'd be interested to help out (obviously I was) and I was assigned the role of sound recordist. It has truly been a meaningful and exciting project to be a part of and I can't wait to see the end result. I really hope you consider this project for funding.
