Aim

4 members of Shankill Parish are aiming to summit the 4 highest peaks in the UK in order to raise funds for Re-Imagining Shankill Project.

𝟒 𝐏𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐓𝐄!  ✔

Amazing effort from Andy, Christine, Wendy and Iain completing the 4 peaks challenge, climbing 4,261m, in 1 weekend!

Thank you to everyone who came and supported as they arrived back in Newcastle (and especially to those who braved the climb and encouraged them all the way!)

And a special thank you to everyone who donated and supported the fundraising efforts.  The fundraising target was completely smashed by raising more than 1.5x what we hoped for!

Our Crowdfunder will stay active until all final monies are counted!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The 4 Peaks Challenge is taking place this year from 20th-23rd June. Shankill Parish Lurgan, have 4 members of the congregation signed up and ready to go undertake this mammoth task! Shankill Parish Community Outreach Co-Ordinator Andy Williamson, Christine Connolly, Wendy Gardiner and Iain (Dino) Uprichard.
What is the 4 Peaks?
The 4 peaks challenge is summiting the 4 highest peaks of Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland in one weekend starting with Ben Nevis on Friday, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on Saturday (yes, two in one day!) before travelling back to Newcastle to climb Slieve Donard on Sunday afternoon. In just 3 days they will have climbed a total of 4,258m or almost half the height of Everest!
The team will have to endure over 24 hours of climbing, 46 km of walking, 18 hours travelling in a minibus, only 15 hours sleep over 3 nights and on average complete 90,000 steps each!
Who?
My name is Iain ‘Dino’ Uprichard and I work for ‘Carpet Tiles Next Day in Norfolk’. I attend and help out with youth club at Shankill Parish Church. I signed up for “The 4 Peaks Challenge” as I am approaching the age of my front door and my life insurance policy expires next year, never mind loving the mountains which are great for body, mind and soul. I will have to overcome a few obstacles to complete this awesome challenge and hope that I can help raise funds that will benefit others. I hope that my slightly competitive comical nature will help me climb to new heights.
My name is Christine Connolly, I work for McMullen Facades, I'm also a Diocesan Lay Reader and volunteer speaker for Open Doors.  I signed up for the 4-Peaks Challenge to add another achievement to my various road running competitions.
My name is Wendy Gardiner and I’m the outgoing church warden for Shankill parish . I was drawn to the 4Peaks because I like a wee challenge, and also being outdoors , so why not give it a go! Having done a few mad things in the past for charity, this time will also be a fundraiser for our Re Imagining Shankill project.
Why?
You could help us Re-Imagine Shankill for generations to come!
A Church of Ireland church has stood in the centre of Lurgan since 1725. With the 300th anniversary of the original building approaching we have launched our RE–IMAGINING SHANKILL project and this page sets out our plans to restore and reorder the Parish Church.
Phases 1 (Spire), 2 (Dry Rot) & 3 (Roof) have been completed. The process for Phase 4 has begun. This entails the complete restoration and reordering of the church building. Some initial exploratory works are soon to be taking place in the church, and the architect is continuing to work with the Select Vestry and the building sub-group on a concept design. This phase of the project will be the most challenging and the most expensive!
How can you help?
In support of Andy, Wendy, Iain and Christine we are also challenging you to complete your own 4 Peaks Challenge at home.
90,000 steps? Sure its only ‘A Walk in the Park’!
Throughout May we are challenging you to undertake your own Peak challenge and walk 90,000 steps in support of the team whilst raising money towards our Re-Imagining Shankill Project.
Did you know that just one lap of Lurgan Park is 4000 steps? Doing 1 lap per day, in just 3 weeks you too could complete the 90,000 step challenge.
We are hoping to raise a minimum £10,000 towards this project by completing the 4 Peaks Challenge and our 'Walk in the Park'.
Donations will be accepted through Crowdfunder and can be Gift Aided. Sponsorship sheets for cash donations are also available.
**Please note Crowdfunder automatically add in a Tip to all donations - Shankill does not receive these add-ons - this can be removed before payment by clicking 'Enter Custom Amount' and typing 0.**
