Aim

To build a positive mindset for generations. We aim to build fitness, mental health and install positive habits, focusing on small goals.

Who are we?

Anfield Amateur Boxing Club (Anfield ABC) is a community-based amateur boxing club in Anfield, North Liverpool that uses boxing as a tool for youth development, crime reduction and positive life change.

Who are we?

The club was founded by Alan Walsh, a youth worker and boxing coach who set the club up as part of a knife‑crime and youth‑violence reduction project.

Their well‑known slogan is “Real Men Don’t Carry Knives”, reflecting a strong focus on prevention, education, and mentoring alongside boxing training.

What we do

Provide amateur boxing training for children, young people, and adults, including beginners and competitive boxers.

Run youth outreach and mentoring programmes, working with schools, local authorities, charities, and criminal‑justice partners to address issues like knife crime, gangs, and antisocial behaviour.

Operate as a safe community hub, helping young people and adults build discipline, confidence, respect, teamwork, and mental wellbeing.

Where are we based

The club is located on Queens Drive, Liverpool

Anfield Amateur Boxing Club is much more than a boxing gym: it’s a long‑running Liverpool community project using amateur boxing to support young people and adults and reduce violence while also producing competitive boxers

Why are we crowdfunding?

We want to make this a community effort but also the community to be rewarded for their efforts. We are looking to create community ambassadors who have the skills base to continue this work for as many years as possible. We are raising funds to invest in the club and community. If successful, we will open up free places for young people in order to break down any financial barriers that may stop young people attending and engaging in positive activities.

If you're applying for extra funding, this is a good place to demonstrate why your project is eligible so refer back to the criteria to help complete this section

We are in a good place if we reach are goals set out in crown funding as Sport England a local business has stated they will match fund a further year so the project will run for an additional year.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funding will pay towards some extra hours for coaches who currently volunteer. We are hoping to fund 2 coaches and 1 youth worker. We are also looking to purchase new equipment as the equipment we have now is dated or no longer fit for purpose.

How you can play your part

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a pledge

This does not have to be a financial pledge, you can offer your time to fund raise for the club

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Offer rewards. Any local business donating £20 or more will activate a free place for a young person for a month. A £500 donation gets your logo shared over our social media for a month and 10 free places for young people for a month.

Anyone donating £100 or more can have 2 PT sessions with fully qualified coaches.

Any donations £50 or more gets you a silver plaque on the wall of fame in the club

Any donations £100 or more gets you a gold plaque on the wall of fame.

4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
