Help us make our Three Sisters wildlife haven accessible for everyone to enjoy!
The site needs better access, fun interpretation, and exciting activities that will really inspire people about our wonderful wildlife. If we manage to raise £13,000 we will be given an additional £138,000. If we don’t raise the money we lose it all. Three Sisters desperately needs your support!
Three Sisters can be found next to the race circuit and tucked away behind the South Lancashire Industrial Estate north of Ashton in Makerfield. Despite such an urban location, it is a hidden gem with a lake, woodlands, and ponds bursting with wildlife.
Our paths though are in a shocking state; the slightest bit of rain turns our paths into mud and puts off the hardiest of walkers. This site should be full of families enjoying active adventurous lives however for much of the year the paths really aren’t suitable.
Our project is supported by the Friends of Three Sisters, a group of committed local residents, and the Hamlet, offering placements for young adults needing experience and essential life skills to become more employable and Leonard Cheshire, who support families with children who are disabled.
In consultation with 24 local groups, we have prioritised what work would help make Three Sisters accessible to everyone. Feedback has told us that we need to go beyond just wheelchair access to provide sensory experiences for people with disabilities and use digital technology to bring greenspace to those who are socially isolated. The young people consulted all agreed that they don’t want to get stuck in the mud! We will:
· Create a wooden sculpture trail based that follows a story based on fairies.
· Create fun interpretation to give info about wildlife and tell untold heritage stories.
· take people through wildlife offering activities to bring people closer to wildlife.
· construct benches at scenic spots
· create a 3.6km circular scenic and enjoyable trail, accessible to everyone.
Landfill tax funder WREN have earmarked £138000 for this Greenspace but this is conditional on us raising an additional £13000. The offer is time critical as WREN need this funding spent by the end of the Summer. If we cannot raise the funds in time this funding will be lost. Please help us to ensure we can change Three Sisters for everyone to enjoy.
Here’s the legal bit….
