Who are we?
Llandovery RFC are working with Llandovery Football and Llandovery Community Sports Association (incl. Llandovery College) to develop a fantastic new all weather 3G sports facility for the entire community of Llandovery and North Carmarthenshire (& beyond!).
Why are we crowdfunding?
Our aim is to partly match fund the grants already obtained and, if raised in full, it will also establish a rolling fund to make sure that the pitch is maintained for generations to come.
Every £20 will secure one square metre of pitch and will be recognised on a donor wall on the front of the stand for every one to see. The more square metres you support the more certain that we can be that the project will be a success. Please support as many metres as you can afford or better still support a few metres AND get a friend to help us as well. Just share the link to this page!
Please give generously and as a small thank you back from all the sports clubs and schools involved we will enter your name into a free draw for a £2000 prize to be drawn (Terms & Conditions at the bottom of this page) as the fund reaches maturity probably over Christmas or the New Year 2025. This is an investment in the future of Rugby and Football in Llandovery and indeed across North Carmarthenshire, South East Ceredigion and South Powys.
Llandovery has a proud history in sporting achievements and along with Llandovery College we have produced some of our nations greatest sporting heroes. So many people all over the world know about Llandovery because of our sporting success particularly over recent years. The 3G pitch will ensure that despite climate change our teams and youngsters will be able to play at the highest level week in week out.
How we’ll spend the money raised
This is what we will be achieved with your contribution:
Along with Llandovery Football and Llandovery Sports Association, Llandovery RFC has already managed to get over £600k for a marvellous community 3G pitch as a result of working with the Welsh Rugby Union to access financial support from the “Pitch Collaboration Group” coordinated by Sports Wales. The project has also been funded through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund supported by Carmarthenshire County Council but we have to raise a further £160k to make sure the project succeeds and it is sustainable for the next generation of sports stars coming from our community.
We need to raise funds to partly match the grants already secured and to ensure that the pitch can be maintained at least cost to the participants. Llandovery RFC have obtained a loan to ensure that the work can go ahead in time for the coming season but it will need to be repaid as soon as possible!
Community impact
This is a community initiative to benefit both rugby and football and it will mean that games and practice sessions can go ahead regardless of the weather! We expect that the facility will be used by our local schools and colleges as well as other clubs! The more the merrier!
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! £20 supports one square metre of the new playing surface. The new pitch will be 8000 square metres so please be generous!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get. So many people Love Llandovery and follow the Drovers, if everyone supports a couple of square metres we will have a great facility for everyone!
3. Every Donor will be recognised on our new "Donor Wall" on the front of the grandstand.
4. Fundraise for us. Please help us to raise the funds by collecting donations either through our Crowdfunder page or by collecting direct donations. We have collection books at the Clubhouse to record every donation. It would be great to get donations from far and wide!
5. Join our Free Draw. Look out for details of our Free Draw!
6. Follow our Progress and see who is supporting the appeal. Look out for updates on Love Llandovery and other social media outlets to see who is helping us with our appeal.
Who will use the pitch and why are we investing so much to establish the facility?
As we have said above the more clubs and teams that will use the pitch the happier we will be and that is why we have taken the difficult decision to convert the main pitch at Church Bank into an all weather facility. Between the Junior Drovers and the junior section of Llandovery Football (who train at Church Bank over the winter months) there are hundreds of youngsters participating in sport at Llandovery every week but all too often games are being cancelled due to (perhaps climate change and) ground conditions. We also have a number of other clubs, colleges and schools that are regularly asking to use our ground for matches perhaps because of the existing (excellent) grandstand and clubhouse facilities or in the case of Llandovery College and Coleg Sir Gar because their matches are to be covered on TV. Unfortunately all too frequently we cannot guarantee access to the pitch again because of the impact on the pitch. Our aim is to be able to accommodate everyone as much as possible.
The new pitch is expensive to install because it is designed to suit both rugby and football and it will meet the standards prescribed by the WRU and FAW with excellent drainage, low cost but high quality lighting and storage facilities for goals etc.
Whilst our focus here is on the youngsters it will of course also be used by Llandovery RFC in the new Super Rugby Cymru competition which will be the development route for future professional players and it will be used by Llandovery Football senior team whenever necessary to compliment their existing pitch at Castle Fields. Once completed the pitch will also be made available to any local schools, football and rugby clubs for training and games as required.
