The aim of this crowdfunding is to expand our audience and help this years 3 Bays Challenge our best year yet for our chosen charities.
The 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge is a charity race between the Padstow area Lifeguards. The race starts at Boobys Bay with a run to Treyarnon bay, followed by a swim from Treyarnon bay back around to Constantine Bay, finishing with a rescue board paddle to Trevose Head and back to Constantine Bay.
100% of proceeds go to charity and will be divided into 3 charities; The RNLI, Breast Cancer UK and the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust.
The 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge was initially set up due to a close friend of the local lifeguards sadly taking his own life. This inspired the local lifeguards to see what we could do to help prevent this from happening again. This started with the 1st 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge.
After the success of the first challenge, we decided to make it an annual event with different charities each year. The charities we choose are determined by the circumstances of the local lifeguards each year.
The charity for the second year was Diabetes Uk due to one of the Lifeguards and being diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes.
The Chosen Charity for the 3rd 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge was Cornwall Hospice Care due to one of the Lifeguards partners mother being diagnosed with Cancer and very sadly passing away. Cornwall Hospice Care was an Incredible help to her in every way and helped her through everything that she was faced with.
Due to COVID-19 the 2020 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge had to be postponed until 2021.
NOW 2021! The 3 Bays Lifeguard Challenge 2021. Due to the 2020 challenge being cancelled, we decided to do this years event for two charities. Initially, the chosen charity for 2020 was the Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust as they are a vital asset to Cornwall for the residents and also the holidaymakers. In Cornwall, we are very fortunate to have this service here to save countless lives. However, due to one of the local Lifeguards mothers being diagnosed with breast cancer, we decided to hold the event for both charities this year. The Lady herself has been a massive help with local charity events in the past and she is also a vital part of the local Surf Life Saving Club, where the future lifeguards are trained and chosen from.
