Raise £50,000 by end March to enable Cardiff Pedal Power to continue to deliver it's inclusive cycling services to its service-users

Pedal Power is an inclusive cycling charity based in Cardiff that encourages and enables people of all ages and abilities to access cycling and its many health and wellbeing benefits. We have 30 years experience of helping people - mainly those furthest removed - to access cycling. We have a huge range of adaptive cycles for hire and highly skilled staff who match each individual to the right cycle, accessories and support required to give the best cycling experience. We also offer cycle lessons, repairs, social group rides and an accessible community cafe at our site in Pontcanna, Cardiff.

My name is Sam, and as Director of Pedal Power Inclusive Cycling Charity in Cardiff, I’m reaching out to ask for help as we urgently seek to raise £50,000. This is to help us bridge a temporary funding and income shortfall and continue to deliver all our services for our beneficiaries, the majority of whom are disabled.
The cost of maintaining Pedal Power's seasonal 5-6 day a week service is around £50,000 per month and each year Pedal Power must raise 96% of our total running costs, which we do through our core service offering (charging for cycle hire, repairs, cycling lessons and selling cake and coffee in our community cafe), alongside seeking donations, grants and foundations.
We currently find ourselves in this difficult situation for two key reasons. The charity sector is increasingly squeezed, and our traditional routes of fundraising are becoming stretched and harder to access. This has led to a short-term funding shortfall due to delayed grant decisions. In addition, cycle hire, which is our main source of self-generated income, has been significantly affected by the very rainy start to 2026, leading to fewer people choosing to cycle.
Rest assured, I believe this to be a temporary challenge that will improve as delayed funding becomes available, and our busy cycling season begins in April. In the meantime, I’ve made the decision to use Crowd Funding to generate the funds we need to bridge this challenging period and ensure continuity for our 1300 service users, as well as stability for our dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
We have adaptive cycles for all ages and abilities

Our target of £50,000 is the amount we need to bridge a short, but very challenging period for our charity and ensure continuity of our core service delivery for our 1300 service-users, as well as stability for our dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
We strongly believe this to be a temporary issue that will improve as we move into Spring. Our busy cycling season will begin and funding bids already in the pipeline should come to fruition, enabling us to stabilise our core delivery and continue with our ambitious growth and development plans.
We see every day how cycling offers so many physical and emotional benefits for friends, family, service users and their carers

We have a long history and strong community legacy that we want to continue to develop. Thirty years ago, accessible cycling started in Cardiff thanks to Pedal Power's founder Sybil Williams. This small project has grown into well established and vibrant inclusive cycling centre with over 1300 members. Pedal Power aims to include everyone in cycling. We target those furthest removed from accessing cycling - disabled people, people with long term health conditions, older people, minority and low-income communities, to enable everyone to enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits cycling brings.

There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Please don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project amongst
personal and professional contacts and on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
