Aim

Help us create an insightful dissertation film!

Reporting live from Leeds University, we are Cuppa Productions! Fuelled by a worrying amount of caffeine and a humble desire for a first, we are made up of 5 Third Year Film, Photography and Media students/aspiring filmmakers. Together, we have dreamed up Circulation, our Final Year Project. It is a surrealist sci-fi short film which stands as a metaphor for the dangers of extreme capitalism and the rise of alt-right propaganda.

We watch as our main character Sam slowly descends into madness, succumbing to the hyper-capitalistic corporate and social structures in the world, which are represented by the newspaper ‘illness’. People who have yet to give up their individuality are able to see the corruption, or ‘newspaper’. Sam is one such person, and rejects the ideology of the world, with some struggle, as represented by throwing up the newspaper. Eventually, he succumbs to ‘reality’ and becomes a deformed mess - representing the necessity to fit in for survival, without any actual willingness. Sam is seemingly alone in their rejection of the dominant ideology, as everyone around them fits in perfectly, and doesn’t notice the newspaper illness and extreme propaganda. This is until they meet Kora, who has found other ways to hide her resistance to the corruption.

Their union represents intersectionality within oppression, and companionship within rigid societal structures. Despite the necessity to work to survive, human connection prevails, and individuality is appreciated by like-minded people.

As much as nicking copies of Metro to use for the film from buses is easy, Circulation would benefit greatly from any contribution whether big or small. All funds received will be used solely for the making of this film. Any amount makes a great difference, and we are thankful for any and all contributions!
