28th September 2018Post-project update
Hello super crowdfunders, we wanted to let you know some follow-up news from the crowdfunding campaign. In early 2018 we were awarded a research grant from the health chart Diabetes UK. This will allows us to explore the chemistry of Bald's eyesalve, find out exactly which bacteria it can kill, and determine whether it might be safe to use as a topical treatment for infections of diabetic foot ulcers. The grant provides a full-time post-doctoral researcher and research expenses for two years. The pilot data we collected from the student projects funded by your donations was an important part of our successful application to the funder, so thank you again!
You can read about the project here.
We are now well into the work on this project, which is mainly based at the University of Warwick (where Dr Freya Harrison has moved) but still involves strong links with the University of Nottingham. Our post-doc, Dr Blessing Anonye, is also supported by a new PhD student (funded by the Medical Research Council's PhD training programme) and by a student undertaking a Master's by Research.
