We are raising funds for this year's #AUOB marches and rallies which support independence for Scotland.

2020 MARCHES AND RALLIES #AUOB

All Under One Banner #AUOB is the established pro-independence campaign organisation whose core aim is to organise marches and rallies for independence until Scotland becomes independent.

AUOB was set up in October 2014 and has been arranging marches since then. #AUOBArbroath will be our 23rd march for independence. The marches have grown spectacularly in size, from 300 to 200,000 most recently at #AUOBEdinburgh in October 2019 which was the biggest and boldest demonstration for independence. Since then, over 80,000 attended our #AUOBGlasgow #OurRightToDecide emergency march on 11 January 2020. #AUOB marches take place in towns and cities across Scotland every year in different locations across the country. The marches bring together local people and visitors who together are good-natured, positive, inclusive, foward-looking independence supporters. There are also obvious economic benefits for the towns and cities in which we march.

Over the last six years All Under One Banner has grown and evolved. Since 30 July 2016, our sixth event, we have organised rallies at each march to give a platform to speakers and performers who also support Scotland’s independence.

We hosted the first #AUOBAssembly in February 2020, which brought together more than thirty Yes groups and other supporters to discuss and debate campaigning for independence and in particular the marches and rallies which we organise. We work more closely than ever with local Yes groups and other activists in order that each march and rally reflects what local independence supporters would like to see and hear.

Marches and rallies are public events. This means that a stage, a PA system and a generator are required. Fencing needs to be put round the stage and the equipment. Portable toilets have to be provided. Marches require lots of volunteers Stewards. Every year we purchase the necessary high-visibility vests for the Stewards at each march. You can see that arranging these marches and rallies costs money. 

We estimate that the costs of the marches and rallies planned for 2020 is £29,690 which is broken down as follows:

4th April - Arbroath: £3,540

2nd May - Glasgow: £6,660

6th June - Peebles: £3,370

4th July - Elgin: £3,550

1st August - Kirkcaldy: £3,240

12th September - Stirling: £3,240

3rd October - Edinburgh: £6,090

To pay for all of this we raise funds via our online shop which sells merchandise and by arranging buses, with all proceeds going to support the activities of the campaign.

We also accept donations online via our website –  https://auob.org/donated - and from people running stalls and businesses at the rallies that we organise. We work with the Scottish Independence Foundation – www.sif.scot – who from 2020 are organising and managing bucket collections at all AUOB events. SIF will control the bucket collections and will divide the proceeds between AUOB and the wider Yes movement.

These are all important and valuable sources of funds however arranging marches and rallies costs a lot more than we have raised so far. This is why we are asking for your help to continue to grow the campaign. 

Each march requires a notification to be made to respective local Councils across the country and that leads to travel costs for attending meetings with Councils and with Police Scotland. We also arrange meetings with local Yes groups and other supporters for each march, with more travel required.

All Under One Banner marches and rallies are arranged by independence supporters for independence supporters. They are a collective effort requiring time, effort, innovation, persistence, care and attention. They also require funding and that is the purpose of this crowdfunder for #AUOB 2020 marches and rallies. Independence supporters contribute in many ways and on this occasion we are asking for a financial contribution in order to help make the marches and rallies in 2020 bigger, brighter and more powerful than ever. The time is now.
