Aim

The Cartoon Museum is 20! To celebrate the Museum's impact, we are seeking your help to ensure its sustainability into the next decades.

Who we are:

The Cartoon Museum is Britain's only museum dedicated to cartoon, caricature and comic arts. Our unique collection holds more than 6,000 artworks and a library of 8,000 publications. These works tell the rich 300-year story of British cartooning from the Georgian era to today, showcasing witty humour and challenges to the status quo. We invite everyone to participate in the power of line and laughter.

What we do:

Over the past 20 years, we have proudly:

  • Welcomed more than 500,000 local, national and international visitors
  • Engaged nearly 40,000 children through our schools, learning and outreach programme
  • Platformed more than 200 cartoon, caricature and comic artists through our exhibitions
  • Supported the work of new talent through our Young Cartoonist in Residence programme, conferences, shop merchandise and events programme

By 2030 we aim to:

  • Target and grow our audiences: engage more people and artists by relaunching our In-Focus exhibits and expanding our family and neurodiverse programmes
  • Showcase and safeguard our collections: de-risk our collection and library by moving them to suitable long term storage and unlock public access for research and enjoyment
  • Sustain and invest in our organisation: increase our income, develop skills and strengthen our partnership network

Our challenge:

We are a small independent museum in receipt of no regular funding. The financial landscape for cultural organisations has changed. In order to continue caring for our collections, engaging audiences and nurturing promising talent, we need your help to build a sustainable path so that we are fit for the future.

How you can help:

Every bit counts! If you are able to donate, we appreciate your contribution towards our £20,000 goal. These donations will help us achieve our 2026 goals to: re-launch our In-Focus programme of rotating exhibits, transport our collections safely into more suitable long-term storage and provide accessible opportunities for young people.

We also want you to spread the word - about our collection, our vision for the future and our fundraising campaign. We thank you for visiting our galleries, joining our Friends and Patrons group, attending our events, buying from our onsite and online shop and sharing your experiences on socials and through word of mouth.

Through new support and continued dedication, we will be fit for the future. We will continue to make the creativity of cartoon art - past, present and future - accessible to all for the purposes of education, research and pure enjoyment. Here's to our next 20 years - and beyond!
