Aim

We want to build raised beds in the Scout Group HQ garden for Beavers, Cubs & Scouts to grow vegetables & flowers & learn about gardenin,g.

We have recently arranged for the grinding of 4 tree stumps, strimming, removal of garden waste and tidying up of the garden space.

Previously the uneven ground and tree stumps made the space unuseable for all but the Scouts. Forced outdoors during Covid, this was particularly restrictive.

Having prepared the ground, we would now like to raise money to build raised beds for Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to be able to grow their own vegetables and flowers and get hands on experience of gardening.

Having purpose built beds doesn't just enable all sections to learn about gardening and work towards that badge but they can use what they grow when cooking, look after the beds to help with environmental conservation and work towards their naturalist badges by noting changes in the plants and flowers over time.

The cost of the materials and labour to build the beds is £580 but with additional funds we would be able to purchase fertiliser, plants, seeds and gardening tools.

The group has been an integral part of the local community in Mattishall for years. From our St George's Day and Remembrance Sunday parades to visiting and supporting old people's homes and litter picking, we are passionate about encouraging young people to take an active role in theor community.
