To keep the boxing club open all year round we need to insulate the roof to stop the damp in the winter and keep it cooler in the summer.
We are St Pirans Amateur Boxing Club (ABC), a not for profit club registered with the Amateur Boxing Association of England Ltd. We are located in a deprived area in St Day near Redruth Cornwall England. We have approx 50 members between the ages of 10 and 50 years who train 2-3 times per week. Some members train to keep fit and others train to compete.

Our boxing club is in a barn with a galvanized roof. This roof gets very cold in the winter resulting in condensation dripping into the club and onto the equipment. In the summer conditions can be too hot to train. Improving the roof would mean that we can train all year round which we would like to do to keep our members focused and trouble free also creating a more welcome and accessible place providing the opportunity for more people to be active locally.
Insulating the roof will make the club warmer during the winter and cooler in the summer and make it a safer environment for training. It would also help with soundproofing so that we don't upset the neighbours when we train.
As a non profit organisation, our members pay a nominal fee to train if they can afford to, no one is turned away if they cannot pay the fee (£3 per session for Juniors and £4 per session for seniors). The funds we do have are used to purchase equipment and to cover the costs incurred in taking boxers and supporters (members) to other clubs to compete. We are therefore crowd funding to raise the funds necessary to insulate the roof.

The money raised will be used to insulate the roof by fitting insulation / sound proof material under the galvanised roofing which will be held into place by wooden batons. The whole roof will then be plaster boarded.

The club is situated in a deprived area with very little in the way of clubs and activities for adults and children alike. Since opening the club in Nov 21 we have seen our members develop in confidence, fitness, determination and outlook. We have members who have had low self esteem, been bullied at school and on the autistic spectrum all of whom have benefited from being part of the St Pirans Family. Parents of our boxers have provided positive feedback, for example:
The mother of a 13 year old boy "We are beyond proud of Kayden and all he has achieved this year. 11 months ago Kayden was bullied at school and wasn't himself, but that wont ever be happening again will it. St Pirans has put him back on top and we've seen a different boy this year! All thanks to your hard work at the club ...."
Our club isn't just about the junior members, we have several seniors (aged up to 50 years) who attend training in order to improve their fitness and to be part of the community spirit that we have at the club.

Our project aligns to the “United by Birmingham 2022” programme:
The success of England's boxers at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games was inspirational to all those involved in Amateur Boxing. It further inspired the coaches to challenge the way they coach and motivate the boxers to ensure that each individual reaches their full potential.
As a club, we recognise the key attributes of the commonwealth games boxers. Courage, Fitness, Stamina, Skill, Strength and Ambition, attributes that we focus on for our members at each and every training session.
Although boxing is an individual sport, we encourage members to support each other, both inside and outside the club. The morale within the club has grown from strength to strength as a result of encouraging members of all ability levels to train together.
