Aim

To assist our volunteers to collect the annual 7 ton of leaf from our green.

At beechwood we rely on volunteers to maintain our bowling green, each year we have the unenviable task of collecting 7 ton of leafs from our surface. This mechanical device will ensure our volunteers are saved this tiresome task. Nestled in the scenic Beechwood Park, on the Eastern side of Newport, Beechwood Bowls Club was founded in 1904. In December 1903, Newport Parks Committee resolved to convert two tennis courts into a bowling green. The work was completed in March 1904, and the first equipment was purchased for official use. Later that summer enthusiasts gathered at the green to formally establish Beechwood Bowls Club, setting an entrance fee of 2 shillings with no cap on membership numbers. In 1921, Mrs Ethel Spicer, a pioneer of ladies bowls in Wales, founded the Beechwood Ladies Bowls Section, one of the earliest ladies bowling groups in the country. In 1926 member, H. Spicer took the Monmouthshire Singles Championship. We have a proud tradition at Beechwood, and still encourage Men, Ladies, and Juniors of all race and creed to participate in our wonderful sport. We are an independent unit, and rely solely on on membership fees and donations, and profits from a small bar we run.1783966234_1783966234096.jpeg
