To date I've had the pleasure of visiting 40 Scottish islands. There could not be a better hobby if you love the outdoors, Scotland, its wildlife and a bit of adventure. It's also an excellent way to travel on holiday without harming the planet.
On a recent trip to my favourite island, Arran, I was heartbroken to see Glen Rosa, a beautiful wild glen and a place of my childhood, go up in flames. When that happened, a decade's worth of conservation work went up in smoke, and a huge amount of wildlife perished. At the same time I was thinking about my own travel choices on holiday and the impact they can have on global warming, which in turn will have made that devastating fire more likely.
I will take my total to 100 Scottish islands by the end of 2030 in order to raise money for (a) the restoration of Glen Rosa (National Trust for Scotland) and (b) Flight Free UK, who do magnificent campaign work to encourage sustainable travel choices.
Please help me raise £1000 by 17/6/2025 as I want to make a donation as soon as possible.
It will be my pleasure to visit and soak up (not just ‘tick off’) 60 more incredible islands - and now I want to give back to the beautiful, wild environments they offer us.
