Using recently released records, research and expand OurFallen website database and then turn into a DEFINITIVE hardback book at cost price.
OUR FALLEN BOOK
This project builds on the success of the Lowestoft Our Fallen website, celebrating the lives of the 2,060 residents who were lost in the two World Wars.
** UPDATE** We ALREADY have a grant from ESC Enabling Communities Budget of £1,000 ON CONDITION WE RAISE MATCHING MONEY - If successful we will fund researchers to expand the current information using recently published archives to make it as definitive as possible. Once done we will pay to reformat it as a professionally designed 450 page hardback book. Your generosity in funding the above will allow us to offer the book at just the cost of printing (around £18)
------
It started in response to a project in Felixstowe, where having identified their fallen AND the home addresses, they put posters on the relevant streets lampposts saying for example “Walter Cotton lived at no 22 just over there, George Ramsey lived opposite at No 7 just there etc. This seemed to us a great way to bring history to life and onto our streets. Knowing that these brave locals walked out of the VERY homes we pass each day (or maybe even live in) never to return seemed very poignant.
But we quickly discovered that only incomplete and often conflicting partial lists existed for Lowestoft, we set out to put that right.
It resulted in 300 new photographs, 50 new family memories and discuss discovery of over 100 Lowestoft people never recorded before on any memorial. These 5% were sadly lost to time, forgotten.
THIS additional project gives us the chance to raise enough to DOUBLE the research on most entries and then create a book based on it. We can then publish it and sell it at JUST the cost of printing (around £18) making it accessible to all.
