  • Dinnington Colliery Band is part of a national initiative launched by Brass Bands England to save the many UK brass bands who are struggling to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic. Brass bands are a core of their local community, and many risk disappearing altogether without your help.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our brass band is a self-supporting registered charity.  Our income is from performances, and also fundraising, both of which are impossible at the moment due to the COVID-19 restrictions.  Typically 40+% of our annual income is from playing Christmas music and carols in December, and this will not be possible on 2020.  We have also had no income from performances in 2020.

Your donations will be used to ensure the future of the band by providing money to meet annual fixed costs, and also to support our campaign to build a new rehearsal facility.  Our current bandroom has no windows or toilets.

About Dinnington Colliery Band

Dinnington Colliery Band's mission is :-

* to advance the education of the public in the art of brass band music making

* to further the development of public appreciation in the said art through public performances, and

* to encourage the musical education of players of all ages and abilities by the provision of tuition and training facilities

We focus our activities on maintaining the heritage of Colliery Bands by performing at concerts, galas, parades etc.  The dedication of the bands core members was recognised in 2009/10 when they were chosen to feature in a 3-part BBC2 documentary 'A Band for Britain', highlighting the social and financial struggle faced by brass bands in the UK.

Dinnington Colliery Band also provides free tuition (including provision of an instrument), and finances ABRSM examinations for both practical and theory.

We welcome players of all ages, regardless of background, faith, gender or personal circumstances, and believe in the philosophy of encouraging the enjoyment of music irrespective of ability or previous experience.

About Save Our Brass Bands

Brass bands exist in every corner of the UK, with over 30,000 people of all ages and standards taking part in weekly activity – rehearsing, performing and providing entertainment for their local community.

But we risk losing this forever.

Brass Bands saw their main source of income disappear in an instant when they ceased being able to perform in March in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Months later, we still don’t know when normal performances will be able to take place. A significant loss in income over the Summer months, paired with necessary expenditure needed to make rehearsal spaces Covid compliant means that many Brass Bands are in a perilous financial situation.

Without urgent support, we could lose our nation’s amazing Brass Bands. Please help us to make sure they survive this crisis and will be there to be enjoyed by future generations.

#SaveOurBrassBands

Please donate, share this page widely and do what you can to help us to make sure our Brass Bands survive this crisis.
