Let's help our city's children learn about the brilliance of plastic, the challenges of plastic pollution and what they can do about it.
Local Dad, Neal Layton, is an internationally renowned, award-winning author and illustrator, and is publishing a new book later this month, entitled 'A Planet Full of Plastic'.
This is a book for children that takes them on a journey with plastic; exploring it's invention and brilliant properties, the issues that we now face with plastic pollution and ending with big and small ideas on how we can face these challenges and help the planet.
Primary school teachers, who have had a sneak preview, are already wanting to use the book in classrooms, as an accessible resource for our city's children, and I don't want school's dwindling budgets to stop any child in Portsmouth from being able to read this book.
I'd like to raise enough funds to ensure that every infant, junior and primary school (all 55) in the city get's at least one copy of 'A Planet Full of Plastic'
I've partnered with local independent book shop, The Hayling Island Book Shop, to be able to get the book at half price, so it's just £6.50 per book.
Could you contribute and help buy half a book, a whole book, two books?
Can we get every child in the city, aware of the issues, and equipped with ideas on how they might help to stem the flow of plastic into our city's streets, parks and the sea?
Every little helps, and if we exceed the target, we'll spread the love into the city's neighbouring schools.

You'll be able to purchase a copy (rrp £12.99) at the Book Launch (Saturday 29th June 2019, 4 - 5pm, The Round Tower, Broad Street, Portsmouth, PO1 2JE, FREE for all the family), from Hayling Island Bookshop or on Amazon.
Get in touch with Plastic Free Portsmouth, a campaign linked with Surfers Against Sewage. Their volunteers can come in to do assemblies, lessons and help your school gain Plastic Free School status.
