We have been given a wonderful opportunity to re-locate to Crown Street, the independent hub of Brentwood. Not only does the premises offer us more space for events, but it also has step free access, which we are so passionate about. The new location is situated opposite Chatham Way Car Park, in a pedestrianised street. It’s perfect!
However, moving has costs and we are asking for your support. The less we have to borrow, the more amazing we can make our new home.
The story so far

We first opened our doors in October 2012, after years of wistfully dreaming and quite a lot of procrastinating. Chicken and Frog is a family owned and run business, with three generations often found under its roof.
Our primary goals have remained constant:
- To introduce families to the wonderful world of books
- To provide a welcoming space for all
- To work alongside schools, charities, community groups, local businesses and beyond, to create a sense of community within our beautiful town

Along the way, we have forged strong relationships with customers and the community as a whole. This is something that we will continue to do, for as long as the people of Brentwood want us!

The world of stories allows us to be creative with what we offer, including book clubs for children and adults; a creative writing club; in-store and school author and illustrator events; town-wide events such as the Brentwood Town Centre Santa Hunt; Get into Arts Festival with Brentwood Theatre; sensory story-time; two Christmas grottos; Rhythm and Rhyme for pre-schoolers…the list goes on and we love everything that we provide for you.

The next chapter
To make our dream a reality we need to ask you to be involved, which is why we’ve created this crowdfunding campaign.
In our new home, there will be more room for books, but also a space to relax with a cup of tea. Those of you who have been part of our story for a while may remember our lovely 'Elmer' sofa. Sadly, we had to let it go when we added in a cafe corner to help cover the cost of rising rent. But, when we move, we will have space for a cafe corner and a sofa! Is there anything better than sinking into a comfy chair, with a cuppa and a book?!
A focal point for the new space will be a bespoke counter, made to look like a pile of books. These are the very rough sketches, to whet your appetite:

The tuition centre will also be moving into a bigger, more versatile space, which will be made available to community groups. We already have plans to host the Town Twinning French Group and Chapters Storytime Club, and would love to welcome more people to the space during the week. The room is easy access and even sound proofed, which means that children with sensory needs will feel more relaxed, as there will be less distractions.
Imagine a space that is accessible to all. That's what we are going to provide for anyone who wants to visit us.
Thank-you so much for your support in our journey so far, we're looking forward to sharing the next chapter with you.
