In 2019 the first 3 Councillors elected as Greens joined Thanet District Council, and they've achieved a lot. This year we have 7 candidates standing for election for Kent County Council, two for by-elections for Thanet District Council and one for Ramsgate Town Council. Just think what a difference they could make!
Because of lockdown, we can't get out & about chatting to people as we normally would - and we can't rely on the regular media coverage that larger parties get. So we need to raise funds for literature, banners and social media boosts to get our message out to voters!
At the heart of the Thanet Green Party is a desire to see positive change for people, communities and our environment. We believe in ‘people and places before party’. Our 3 Thanet Green Councillors are putting this at the heart of what they are doing - listening to residents and taking forward their views, and actively campaigning to improve the way Thanet District Council operates and how it works in partnership with its communities.
Our stance on politely challenging the ‘status quo’, daring to think differently and putting people and places first is clearly what residents want too. Thanet Green Party is the Isle's fastest-growing party: we're three times bigger now than we were 2 years ago. In the 2019 local elections, in nearly all the wards where we stood candidates but didn't win, we were next-placed after those who were elected. Our share of the overall vote in local elections has increased from 2% in 2015 to 29% in the most recent TDC by-election (February 2020).
We have high aspirations for our communities: we want them to be healthier, happier, cleaner, greener and more prosperous for all. We want to see our small businesses that provide the bulk of employment for locals being better supported. We want to put communities and locals at the heart of decision making, including our young. We want to see positive change driven by communities - but we can only achieve this if more Greens are elected at all levels of local government.
