Michael Sturrock for Edinburgh Southern

Dear supporters, 

Today I learned that the party has decided not to progress my candidacy to the next stage of the selection process. 

My campaign sought to rally the growing #NoToYes movement and offer our party the opportunity to select a candidate who reflects the important sea-change taking place across Scotland. 

The Vetting Committee concluded, however, that my local campaign experience was not sufficient to be moved on to the selection stage of the process. Of course, this is disappointing, and I regret not to be able to take part in an exciting campaign to select the best candidate for Edinburgh Southern. 

In spite of this, in a relatively short space of time, the campaign has made waves, attracting local, national and, unbelievably, some of Europe's largest international press reaching an audience of millions around the world. 

Overall this experience has been hugely positive. I have been encouraged to hear from so many others around Scotland—of all political persuasions—who have become convinced that the positive vision of independence in Europe is the best path for Scotland. 

Ultimately, this campaign is neither about me, nor my parliamentary ambitions. We are on the cusp of taking our first steps as an independent nation, and it is fundamental that we bring as many people along with us as we can. The voices of those who previously voted No must be heard and engaged with in respectful dialogue.

So, while my prospective candidacy ends here, my campaign for a positive vision of independence, and efforts to advance the #NoToYes movement, does not. 

With utmost sincerity, I would like to thank you for your support. While it did not get me to the Scottish Parliament, it has helped found a great platform upon which I will build a hub for the #NoToYes movement and continue to make a positive contribution to the independence cause.
