Aim

To make & tour a mother/daughter created jazz-theatre extravaganza, with outreach & community choir, to premiere at Weston Museum May 2019

My mum Ros Cuthbert is a talented visual artist and jazz singer, and when she created a two-headed character in her paintings called MathildaMathilda, it gave me a brilliant idea...

A mother/daughter created and performed show, combining her love of Jazz and the striking visual world of her paintings, with my passion for making imaginative theatre and puppetry for people of all ages!

As soon as we started dreaming around the idea, it got bigger and bigger...

We commissioned Mums long term collaborator Ashley John Long (one of the London Philharmonics young composers of this year) to compose an original jazz score. Mum began writing lyrics. Adam Fuller agreed to direct the show and we got local singing wonder woman Jannah Warlow on board as our Musical director. We've begun recruiting a multi-generational community choir to support the songs at the premiere and we're working with local schools to create costumes. We will open at Weston Museum with a takeover of workshops and events.

We got an Arts Council R & D grant in 2018, but when we went to them to begin to make the project, were turned down. It was so disheartening!

But, we are determined to make this happen!

This project is the most exciting thing that Soap Soup Theatre has dared to dream, and everyone we have spoken to has been as excited as us about it.  All the artists, venues and partners are in place and ready to go...so... WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Any donation, however small will go towards making this wonderful show happen. Mum and I won't be paying ourselves from the crowdfund, all the money will go towards paying the other artists, running the choir, paying for puppets, props and costumes to be made by local artists, fuel for the tour, the list goes on!

So please, dig deep if you can, and help us make what I know will be a very unique and special piece of work.

Thank you.
