Our New charity was created to benefit young people in local communities across Scotland who are creative, practical learners. The charity aims to close the attainment gap in schools by providing opportunities for disengaged learners to receive multiple qualifications and transferable skills. The charity founder, Anna Devitt founded the unique award-winning approach to accredited learning through "Comedy & Confidence" which has been recognised by a wide range of stakeholders and has SCQF framework recognition. Through this new project, the young people will have to opportunity to receive this qualification as well as 2 others, whilst navigating through a creative curricular and building a bespoke pantomime. This project is the first of is kind and we want to give the young people in local communities the opportunity to develop and showcase their skills the showcase will be debut at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow next year.
The project aims to take up to 100 young people through a 17-week programme to gain up to 4 qualifications within the creative industries. Young people will gain confidence, transferable skills and knowledge of the arts. As a result, the young people will create and perform a bespoke pantomime which they have created throughout the programme. This will be showcased in the Theatre Royal in Glasgow! The project will cover various social issues, some of which will have directly affected the young people who are participating. By doing this we are giving the young people a voice to share their stories and experiences and use these to build confidence and the final pantomime!
We believe that everyone can learn, but not everyone learns in the same way. We want to provide equal opportunities for young people in our communities to reach their full potential and gain qualifications which they may not have been able to in school. Our goal is for these young people to find confidence in themselves and use this to create their own opportunities. The final pantomime is an opportunity for the young people to use their new skills and talents to express themselves, share their stories and feel empowered by the creative industries.
This project will benefit young people in YOUR communities who are disengaged from mainstream education, come from a care experienced background or need additional support. The project will allow these young people to reach their full potential whilst gaining qualifications and skills such as confidence to enable them to gain employment. We believe that not only the young people will benefit directly from this, however, the people closest to them, family, employers and neighbours will benefit from the young people's new skills, confidence and abilities. We aim to encourage the participants to engage in education and employment at the end of our programmes.
The funding would make a difference to help secure fully funded places for disadvantaged young people to take part and gain these transferable skills and qualifications. We want to be able to offer this programme to up to 100 young people across Scotland on fully funded places to ensure everyone, regardless of background has the same opportunity to succeed. The cost of a fully funded place is approximately £1500 per person. Therefore, we want to use the money raised by you to offer these places to the young people who need it most. By supporting our organisation you will be making a difference in closing the attainment gap and encouraging disadvantaged young people to reach their full potential.
"Everyone was interacting from the very start. Very funny, but great for building confidence"
"I have learned how to use positive body language, expression and how to think outside the box"
"The course helped me to step outside my comfort zone and I have used these skills in my everyday life. Before this course I was too nervous to go for job interviews or put myself out there"
We have extended our project run time for an additional week as we have some important pledges lined up!
