'Ludwig', our potbelly pig, has been our pride and joy since he was eight weeks old (over six years ago!). We have been living in Britain for four years now and initially had planned to settle here. We found work quickly enough, made friends and adopted a pig brother 'Wilbur' and a cat brother 'Morty' to keep Ludwig company.
But Brexit has thrown a spanner (wrench) into the works, and recent developments and dialogues with people more informed than us on the export of exotic pets, have revealed that unless we want to run a very real risk of not being able to take our boys with us when we move to the EU, which may soon be more a requirement than a choice, then the smart decision is to make sure we all move before Brexit day, the end of March 2019. (I am Canadian and am thus able to reside here on the extension of my Spouse's EU Rights, who is German.)
Unfortunately this does not leave us with much more time to save up to cover the cost to transport our animals, as we had anticipated that either our own rights to live and work in England would have been secured by now, or that we could remain at least until the end of the negotiated extension period (Dec 2020).
With your help we will be able to obtain a suitable van, and carry out the modifications to it that meet the requirements for animal transport, as this is not only much cheaper than hiring professionals to move them, but should also make the journey less traumatic for them.
To show our gratitude for your contribution, we will send you a truly unique earth-friendly gift (SWAG), with the theme of our little herd. Items range from keychains and pendants containing a genuine hog bristle (for luck), to mugs, calendars, motivational T-shirts to original art work! Whether you are a philanthropist and animal lover or simply a fan of Ludwig, there is a special gift for you, or a loved one that loves pigs!
