We made our target! From the very bottom of our hearts, thank you all so much for your astounding support and generosity. We’ve been completely blown away by the encouragement and praise that we’ve received for our community venture, and can only begin to express how grateful we are to every single one of you that played a part in this incredible achievement. In just 12 days, over 250 people/businesses from across 10 different countries pitched in to help #KeepPatchworkAlive, which is simply staggering. We’re safe!
We would like to say a special thank you to Dave Summers at DMS Vinyl in Plymouth for giving our campaign a significant boost at the perfect time; to Daz Newton and the team at Multimarine in Millbrook for tireless support and wisdom; to Councillor George Trubody for a generous pledge from Cornwall’s Community Chest; to Millbrook Folk Club for recognising our support for future generations of musicians and graciously donating £200, and to Clive at Widdicombes, Nick at the Canteen and Louise at Cornish Pod for digging deep in support.
The Southwest music scene heroically rallied to our cause too, with bands far and wide sharing our posts and pledging support. Times are so tough for musicians and creatives right now - their contributions really meant the world. A massive thank you to John Fairhurst, Alex Hart, Charlie Louise, Andy Boddington, Jamie Yost, Jack Cookson and the Oogle Buffleflum family for giving up their precious time to live stream in support. The wealth of talent in our area is stunning, we’re so very happy that we can continue to help it grow.
What will we do with the funds?
It’s not overly glamorous, but the £10,600 that you have helped us raise in the last two weeks should completely cover our core costs until the end of October 2020. Our fixed monthly overheads are significant, with licences, insurances, utilities and services all still depleting our reserves while we are closed. Not to mention our ground rent to the Rame Conservation Trust, who require steady rental incomes to continue to protect Maker Heights so beautifully.
If we manage to open our doors sooner than November, the funds raised here will enable us to programme an even greater amount of free community events and workshops, celebrating the lifting of lockdown and our ability to properly socialise and interact once again. In the meantime, we’ll continue to explore opportunities to support our community in creative ways during this pandemic. If you have any ideas please get in touch, we’re always all ears.
A final word of thanks...
Grassroots venues and community hubs up and down the country are at real risk right now, as we were just two weeks previously. The #SaveOurVenues crowdfunder campaign that we joined was orchestrated by a national charity called Music Venue Trust. They’re a very small team of frankly superhuman beings, whose care, passion and dedication is unparalleled and so appreciated. The amount of advice and guidance we have received since we started this venture is phenomenal, and without Mark, Bev, Matt, Clara, Lucy and associates, we would not have made it to this point. We probably wouldn’t have even considered a crowdfunder!
The final thank you is to all of you beautiful people reading. Thank you for helping us to keep our dreams alive. Thank you for donating so very generously at such an unstable and uncertain time for everyone. Thank you for every word of encouragement, every person you’ve told and post you’ve shared. Thank you for believing in us, and continuing to show your heartwarming support for what we’re trying to create. We won’t let you down.
