Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Jamie Jones has made the remarkable gesture of offering to auction his 2017/18 Sky Bet League One winners medal to help the Wigan Athletic Supporters Club ‘Save Our Club’ campaign.

Jones, 31, is entering his fourth season with Latics and says he wants to do anything he can to ensure the club has a future, especially one with supporter involvement.

"It’s been amazing to see the club’s supporters raise over £450,000 in four days – it just goes to show how much this place means to our fans, the staff at the club and us as players – past and present.

"The medal obviously means a lot to me but I have all those amazing memories from that season and my time with Wigan in many forms so I just felt by donating the medal I could raise more money for the campaign and get towards the initial £500,000 total.

"We have decided to do a £5 entry to this campaign so everyone who donates £5 on the dedicated page from 11am on Sunday through to 5pm on Monday will be entered into a draw."
