Invisible Cities has been hit hard this year and yet we are supporting more people than ever before across the UK.
Who We Are
Invisible Cities started in 2016 and has offered unique tours to thousands of customers across the country over the years. Starting in Edinburgh first, we now operate in Glasgow, Manchester, York and had plans to launch in Cardiff this year.
We train people who have experienced homelessness to become walking tour guides of their own city and offer award-winning walking tours to tourists and locals alike. We give people a voice, when too often they don't have one, and we support everyone to become whoever they want to be. We also provide one-to-one support for our guides, giving them access to housing, food, training and employment opportunities. We allow for meaningful connections to be made, not only between the guides and trainees, but with the guests on our tours who come from all over the world. Our tours break down the stigma that exists around homelessness by talking about the issue with honesty.
Where We Are Now
COVID-19 and the various phases of lockdown throughout the country, means we have had to pause all our activities and tours while we still continue to support our guides, trainees and volunteers. They have all experienced homelessness and other barriers such as trauma, substance addiction, history of poor mental health, poverty or learning difficulties.
2020 is an incredibly difficult year for us all and at Invisible Cities we are grateful for each encouraging message of support we have received and each customer who has booked with us. The harsh truth is that tourism is unlikely to return to what it was and yet, we are having to support more and more people with basic needs and development.
We need your support to continue doing what we do best: empower people so they can grow confident, tell their own stories and access every opportunity they want!
How You Can Support Us!
We rely on the income from our walking tours to allow us to support our guides and trainees. But with some of our cities in strict lockdown and many people feeling nervous to leave the house (which is completely understandable), we are not able to deliver tours at the same capacity.
So we have put together this Crowdfunder to continue to deliver the same level of support to our guides and the wider community.
