The Red Rebels caught the imagination of the people for Xr and we want to support brigades forming around the world as they have begun to do

I have always been passionate about art and the environment and how these two elements might combine, how art reflects nature in many ways and how both these things enhance and improve the human experience.

With the emergency declaration by Extinction Rebellion I was keen to participate in some creative way and from within the Invisible Circus community in Bristol we devised a series of actions to be a part of the Spring uprising in London. One of these was the Red Rebel Brigade alongside Circus and Ocean themed processions.

The Reds captured the imagination of many people and also a lot of media attention for the movement, we had people participating from around the Uk as well as other countries, all turning up on an ad hoc basis and having quite a profound experience being part of this strange and beautiful form of performance protest.

After the uprising people got in touch about forming brigades in their own regions and countries and this has begun to happen. we want to support this proliferation towards the global strike in September and beyond galvanise these groups to expand into other forms and ideas of creative demonstrations.

We are a small core team and it has been quite a mission keeping up with actions around the Uk, we made some how too videos to enable people to create their own costumes and troupes but we would like to be able to support this more by making costumes here in bristol for distribution, maintaining an online prescence to keep track of developments between all the various groups and also cover expenses for key performers to be able to go and support troupes with workshops and training.

We have around a dozen members able to lead brigades and would like to share more of this leader training enabling anyone to be able to take that role, as so many actions are happening and so many people want to get involved this role is key in being able to make the processions as effective as possible, experiment more with improvisations and tabluex formations as well as maintaining the level of performative quality that has developed so far.
