Aim

Help us to cover the print costs of Inside History Magazine. We focus on one central theme at a time. First up is Medicine and Surgery.

Inside History Magazine focuses on one central theme for each issue. Our first issue will focus on the grisly history of Medicine and Surgery. Using this as our theme we have been busy designing and collaborating with our contributors to ensure that we produce something different from other history magazines available.

From Galen, Plague doctors, anatomy and the advances of surgery during the Victorian period we have all the bases covered. We are delighted to announce that some of our key contributors are:

Dr Lindsey Fitzharris

Dr Lindsey Fitzharris is the best-selling author of "The Butchering Art" which tells the story about how Joseph Lister changed surgery. Lindsey will take you on a journey inside the Victorian hospital wards that were regarded as the"Houses of Death".

Dr John Woolf

Dr John Woolf is the author of "The Wonders" and the co-author of "Stephen Fry's Victorian Secrets". Specialising in the history of freak shows, Dr Woolf will focus on the relationship between these shows and the medical world.

Louise Wyatt

Louise Wyatt is the author of "A History of Nursing". She has focused her piece on "Green Health" highlighting the importance of Hildegard of Bingen and Abbess Euphemia who championed Mental and physical health in the middle ages.

Whilst these three historians are our key contributors we also have a small team of teachers and bloggers who are writing articles about:

The Significance of Galen, Plague Doctors, The Legacy of Florence Nightingale and much more!

What we will do with the funds raised?

All of the funds raised will go towards the print costs for the magazine. We are currently in contact with a number of stockists where we hope the magazine will be sold. With many schools teaching the Medicine through time GCSE syllabus, we also hope to give as many students as we can a free digital copy of our magazine in order to act as a revision aid for their exams. The more we raise, the more copies we can print.

When will the magazine be available?

We are aiming for a September 2019 release for the first issue of the magazine. 60% of the magazine is now completed and a printing company (mixam) has been sourced. A deadline for all articles has been set and our writers are keen to get their articles completed before that date. The final set will be to complete the magazine before our deadline on the 31st of August. It will then be sent to the printers and all copies will then be dispatched to our backers.
