The current issue we face, is building a roof. We’re hoping to gather funds, so we can buy building materials. Thank you in advance.

Khmer Paws Protection is a non-profit organization that works tirelessly to end suffering for dogs and cats in the villages and far-off places of Cambodia. We are committed to sustainable and long-lasting change in Cambodia and work closely with local communities. Our approach includes neutering, outreach, and education to show the value of animals. Our long-term goal is to affect all the people to say no to dogs and cat's meat and change the culture. In most villages of Cambodia, it’s completely normal to see the small restaurants which serve Dog meat. We do believe that this bad culture should be fixed. Khmer Paws Protection is a small animal shelter located in “Kok Phlouk” village, north of Cambodia.

By every measure, the welfare of animals in Cambodia is in dire need. With no animal protection laws, animal abuse is widespread, and dogs and cats are snatched from the street to be sold for meat. We envisage a world where all animals are treated with respect. We believe that for fixing and making the value of animal's welfare we need to start it from the root of society. It means children and teenagers. Because this today kids are the future of society and if they truly understand the value of animals welfare the next generations will believe so. we hope by our actions The overpopulation of street animals in Cambodia will reduce. Injured or sick cats and dogs

without owners will be rescued and treated. Overall, cats and dogs will be healthier and live more species-appropriate lives.

Animal welfare and responsible pet ownership are not so ingrained in Cambodia’s society. our goal is to effect citizens to care for their owned community cats and dogs. We hope if we promote the protection and well-being of animals., then Cats and dogs won’t be abandoned or mistreated. We hope Cambodia’s citizens ultimately become actors for change in the promotion of animal welfare and we believe it's possible.

According to our understanding of Cambodia's society, the main reasons that people eat dogs and cats and  cruel to them are:

this meat is not expensive (compared to beef or pork the dog meat is 3 times cheaper) and for one of the poorest countries in Asia, it makes sense that people save money by doing this action. But cat meat is different. Cat meat is more expensive than pork and almost as same as beef. There are few known restaurants in each area that are known for cat meat. reasons that customers going there are a lot but generally, they are 2 groups of people. People who love the taste of cat meat and people who believe in Superstitions. Most people in Cambodia didn't even finish school so if one of them starts saying something about the effect of cat meat on Infertility treatment, then it's hard to convince them that it's not true. Especially when it's coming from the grand grandparents.

One of the other problems is responsibility. Maybe some people are excited about a little cute puppy and adopt him for few months but when he becomes a big adult dog they will abandon him. And it's painful that people don't look at this as being irresponsible. They think because they are the owner of the pet they have this right to do anything with it. And mostly the poor pets will be exchanged with some items like ice-boxes or pot. Well, it's no surprise for us to see a man on the motorcycle with a big cage on the back of it and some cheap items to exchange for dogs. One time our team followed one of these dog exchangers motorcycles guys and we end up with an underground Slaughterhouse place which was located in a private area and we couldn't enter. We guess each of these dog Slaughterhouse have contact with few motorcycle guys and they work closely.

We hope by collaboration with Notodogmeat campaign we can start a new page in Cambodia. We know it's hard but we believe it's not impossible. Our vision by collaborating with Notodogmeat, we can ban dogs and cat's meat in Cambodia forever. We need a hand to raise our sound into the world. It's happened a long time ago in the neighboring county of Thailand. The Dogs and cats meat yards were banned in Thailand in 2014. Dog trafficking from Thailand to Cambodia is known to exist as Dog meat trade is still legal, and the Cambodian trade needs to be fuelled to feed demand. There are legal dog meat slaughterhouses in most Cambodian cities, especially near the border of Thailand where our shelter is located. Dog meat sells here for about $3 per kilo, and suppliers can earn as much as $1,000 a month (the average monthly salary in Cambodia is $200).

Helpless dogs are killed in the most barbaric ways involving extreme forms of torture. They are often burned or boiled while conscious, hung, electrocuted, limbs amputated, stabbed and left to bleed out or drowned in wire cages immersed in dirty water. It may take up to 30 minutes until the dog dies, in front of cages of terrified dogs awaiting their turn. Puppies as young as three months old are among those being slaughtered. These killings are not just limited to these ‘licensed’ slaughterhouses. They also take place in unregulated slaughterhouses, in people’s backyards and sometimes private rental areas. Children in these families may grow up watching this torture and grow to think that animal cruelty is a normal way of life. But we are here to change these barbarian actions with the help of our partner NoToDogmeat. We are ready to make a move here. Here in Cambodia, there is no dog population management, there is no control at all. A single dog can bring in up to $25 depending on weight for traders. It makes it harder to convince people to stop it. Anyway we are ready to do it:)
