Thanks to the INCREDIBLE support of the community, Frank Wang, the Bethnal Green Coffee Man, has won his long-fought battle to remain outside of Bethnal Green tube station, and now he needs your help to get back in business. We are crowdfunding for a new stall and coffee machine for Frank.
As the new developer next door moved in, Frank was ordered to move out, but because you signed our petition, came to the protest, made placards and leaflets, contacted press and media outlets, and helped us lobby MP's, Bethnal Green Mayor John Biggs, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, the local Labour party, Tower Hamlets Council, and TfL - Frank can now stay! This is fantastic news.
But the battle has not been without its price. Frank hasn’t worked for six months, and was forced to sell his coffee cart and the equipment in it, in order to make ends meet.
So we need your support for Frank again.
As many of you know Frank is much more than a coffee vendor. He has become part of the local community, often given free hot drinks and snacks to the homeless in winter.
At the protest, as reported by OBV, one elderly lady who spoke said that, "Anyone can serve up coffee, but Frank did much more than that. He served up a daily smile, along with warmth and great humanity, which, in this day and age, is priceless." Our Frank himself had this to say.
Please help us ensure this a good news story, demonstrating what local people can do when they see an injustice and care about the community they live in.
As well as selling all his equipment, Frank has now lost out on half a years earnings, making it difficult for him to keep himself and his family afloat.
We need your help. Please donate something towards Frank's new coffee cart - and have a coffee (and more - see rewards!) on Frank in return.
With a successful, fully-funded crowdfund, Frank will be able to purchase the following:
- A new catering stall slim enough to fit into the new width requirements, with a weatherproof canopy for customers and much more protection from the cold for Frank.
- A new coffee machine
- A sanitised, safe handwashing system
- Car batteries for part of his power supply
- His new safety certifications
- A new fridge
- A security system
It would mean the world to Frank for the community to crowd round him one more time. The van will take 10 weeks from the end of a successful crowdfund to completion, so we hope to have Frank up and running again in the first quarter of 2019.
In return, Frank would like to offer you the following:
- A 10% discount card that lasts for one year from date of Frank's reopening, for EVERYONE that donates.
- One coffee on top of that per £10 donated.
- A massive hug from the man himself.
Thank you so much for reading.
