Help Refugee Mums and Babies this Christmas
We did it
On 9th January 2018 we successfully raised £7,394 with 196 supporters in 63 days

Help us to give a voucher to refugee mums this Christmas so they can buy new clothes for their little ones and themselves.

New stretch target

£7500 would allow us to get £50 vouchers for all the mums at Happy Baby Community AND other refugee and asylum-seeking women and men so greatly in need of clothes and every day essentials, who come to Ourmala' s specialised trauma-informed yoga classes across London.

If we raise more than £7500, we'll put all of it towards the new Happy Baby Community we are planning to open in 2018 with Kings College Hospital. There is a huge number of mums in South London who also desperately need support. Some of them travel over two hours, pregnant or with their new babies, to Happy Baby Community in North London every week at the moment.

The demand isn't because there's been an increase in the number of people seeking asylum in London but because there is so little support for them elsewhere and with the cuts over the last couple of years, refugees and people seeking asylum are suffering even more in their situations of forced dependency.

We'll be talking more about our plan to expand Happy Baby Community to South London soon but for now, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR ANYTHING POSSIBLE! If you'd like to know more about our work, please visit our website and check out our social media channels. Thank you again and wishing you and your loved ones the happiest of Christmas seasons.

Our Happy Baby Community came to life four years ago as a welcoming sanctuary of constant safety where refugee and asylum-seeking mums, pregnant and with new babies, could meet other mothers and volunteers, and get the support they so desperately need.

The mums have all survived atrocities such as war, gender based violence, trafficking and modern-day slavery and are all bright and resourceful, brave and inspiring women. All are committed to rebuilding life for themselves and their little ones and if you could help us give them a voucher to spend on new clothes or items for themselves and their children this Christmas, we and they would appreciate it hugely.

The Happy Baby Community meets once a week and we provide childcare so the women can practise specialist yoga  and massage that helps heal trauma and tension they’re carrying physically and emotionally. It’s an incredibly supportive community, with the women helping one another and we also have English lessons, welfare, legal, medical advice, pregnancy and birth support, a listening service, hand massage. At lunchtime we serve-up a hot nutritious meal for everyone to enjoy together and for many, this is their only hot meal of the week.

Here are a couple of things two mums have said recently:

"Before my life was very bad and now I come to this group, I feel relaxed, I feel something changing in myself. Sometime I feel happy inside. Like a smile inside." - A.

"I am really happy inside when I come to the group… In our situation we have lots of ups and downs and lots of stress and have no one to turn to… The best thing for me is to have someone to talk to as a family." - L.

This year, Happy Baby Community has worked with over 150 mums and 176 babies (that’s a lot of cuddles...).

Our resources are small yet the number of little families who need our support is more than ever.

We are doing everything that we can to enable these mums to move on with their lives and bring their little ones into as stable and loving environments as possible - and we would love your support. A donation makes a big difference.

Please help us support these little families:

£10.00 will help provide a voucher for these women to buy clothes for themselves and their babies or home items this Christmas.

£25.00 will help fund the second Happy Baby Community.  Working with King’s College Hospital, the new community will open in South London in 2018.
