Hello, and welcome to our Crowdfunder!
We are three weeks away from our performance day which will result in a wonderful show for children exploring how we can be calm in a time that feels chaotic. Our working show title and synopsis is below, but all that could change once myself and Emily get in the rehearsal room and start playing and making the work together. We absolutely cannot wait to get the chance to explore our ideas further...
But we cannot do it without your help!
Josie and Her Quest for Calm:
One cold November night, Josie finds herself struggling with the Anger Monster bubbling inside. Slamming doors, screaming, feeling heavy with life, shouting at Mum and Dad. She’s 10 but that doesn’t stop her feeling the feelings she feels inside.
Then out of nowhere, as she’s at her fullest, a beam of light shines through her window hitting every cupboard on the way down. It’s here she meets her Calm Monster, in all the beautiful colours of blue, bringing with him a sense of peace. It’s here… where our journey begins. An adventure of a lifetime…a beautiful quest to find her calm.
A little bit about us...
Night Light Theatre provides arts for wellbeing programmes and creates theatre with/and for hard to reach audiences throughout the North of England, in schools, forensic mental health settings, prisons, hospitals, pupil referral units, rehabilitation centres and in the community.
Our last schools project, 'Bold, Bright and Brave', was performed during Children's Mental Health Week and was a huge success.
Our work promotes health and wellbeing by encouraging connection and creativity to reduce loneliness and isolation. We offer a wide range of workshops, performance events, training and consultations.
What is the project?
This project will last over two weeks and will offer a 30-minute live performance to a school in Leeds on the 13th October, performing back to the children their very own shared stories of emotions and how they have affected them in their daily lives. This will be followed by a post-performance workshop, exploring our very own superpowers and how we can use those to deal with our emotions.
Why we need your help:
We have raised approximately 65% of the funding we need from various organisations and charities, but we are coming to you to help us raise the final amounts needed to make this project as special as we know it can be.
This money will help us achieve this project to its fullest potential. The money we raise here will go towards a much needed extra three days of rehearsal and the cost of rehearsal space that goes with that. It will also help with money towards our costume and prop budget to make it as magical as possible. This Crowdfunder will also give us further time and space to make the digital version just as good as the live version, meaning those that can’t access the show have the option of watching the digital version instead.
But most importantly, this money will go towards funding a future wider tour of our show, whatever the title may be. A show all children should have the opportunity to see and experience.
We, in association with Night Light Theatre, are determined to make something not only beautiful but something necessary for this generation of children who deserve to learn all there is to know about their own emotions. We are certain that once they go on this journey with Josie and her Calm Monster, and experience the workshop we deliver afterwards, they will come away with a better understanding of their own emotions and have the tools to find that calm within the chaos.
Any money you can give to help this project reach as many classrooms as possible is greatly appreciated.
We cannot do it without your support, so even if it’s not money, a simple share or like of the post would be wonderful, we thank you greatly!
As for Josie and her Calm Monster, their quest begins here, but this is most definitely not where it ends.
Lots of love,
James, Emily, and the Night Light Theatre team.
