Aim

Help us raise funds for our debut recording with Prima Facie Records.

Our aim

We have the opportunity to make our first recording, with Prima Facie Records. We would like to record a recital of choral music dedicated to the Virgin Mary, featuring everything from medieval chant to newly composed pieces.

Why make a recording?

The choir has been singing together for 8 years, and the moment has come to record the progress that the group has made, and to share the music it makes with a wider audience. Also, people who come to our concerts always ask us if we have a CD for sale!

'Khoros choir... harmonised in support, fleshed out melodies with wordless scat and led the joyous waltz “Speak to Me of Love, Speak to Me of Truth”... The audience raised the roof' Financial Times

What will be on the disc?

The programme is inspired by the various names given to the Virgin Mary. The repertoire includes polyphonic motets by Parsons, Padilla and Alonso Lobo, pieces by well-known contemporary composers such as Jan Sandström, Benjamin Britten and John Tavener, and new works by Sarah Rimkus, Libby Croad, and Ben Rowarth.

About us

Khoros is a dynamic London-based choir, led by Patrick Allies, that performs repertoire ranging from Renaissance polyphony to new works commissioned from living composers. Since its first concert in 2011, the choir has performed at the City of London Festival, the Brandenburg Choral Series, and the National Portrait Gallery, sung services at Westminster Abbey, St George's Chapel Windsor and Gloucester Cathedral, and undertaken successful tours to France and the Republic of Ireland.

Highlights of the choir's 2018-19 season have included a collaboration with saxophonist Billy Harper for the London Jazz Festival, which was broadcast on BBC Radio 3, and an Arts Council-funded concert with contemporary music group x.y ensemble.
