☎️ SUPPORT LGBT+ VICTIMS OF CONVERSION THERAPY: HELP FUND A NATIONAL CONVERSION THERAPY HELPLINE ☎️

*Content warning: anti-LGBT+ prejudice, sexual abuse, psychological abuse*

We are Galop, the national LGBT+ anti-abuse charity. We work with thousands of LGBT+ people every year who’ve experienced abuse and violence.

We’ve been  supporting our community for almost 40 years – and we need your help to support victims of conversion therapy, with a dedicated, expert helpline. But we urgently need £10,000 to make it happen.

The Background:

Right now, the UK government is embarking on a consultation to better understand conversion therapy, getting us a lot closer to finally making these abhorrent practices illegal.

Conversion therapy is where a person or an institution aims to “change, suppress, or cure” someone’s sexuality or gender identity. This can involve beatings, “corrective” rape, prolonged psychological abuse, and more.

Galop works every day with victims of these so-called conversion therapies who are going through this right now in the UK.

The Challenge:

We’re glad our community’s relentless campaigning is finally paying off, but we know that the consultation, legislation, and media coverage will be hard for LGBT+ survivors. This is likely to be a triggering and traumatic time for our community.

Most worrying of all, current victims of these abusive practices, or those at risk, may find the strength to come forward but not know where to find help.

We cannot leave victims of this abuse with nowhere to turn. That’s why we’re going to create a dedicated helpline – run by expert, trained, LGBT+ staff – so nobody has to go through the consultation without support.

But we don’t have the cash or reserves to pay for it alone. This is a big, unexpected cost – and we desperately need a minimum of £10,000 for the admin, set-up, and staff costs.

Take Action for LGBT+ Victims Now:

Our community and our allies come together when it matters most. This helpline will be a lifeline for those in our community suffering this abuse, and together we can be there for everyone who needs us.

Please donate whatever you can afford now, to ensure victims of conversion therapy get the expert care they deserve.
