Help Free Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.
A lot of you by now may have seen the documentary series "making a murderer". It takes us through a very public and very corrupt legal battle which results in Steven Avery wrongly sentenced to life in prison without parole and his at the time child nephew, Brendan Dassey, also sentenced to life in prison, both for horrific crimes they did not commit.
In the documentary, Robert Henak, who served as Avery’s post-conviction attorney in the 1990s, draws a parallel to the 1985 case, in which Steven Avery was wrongfully convicted and then released when new evidence surfaced 18 years later. “What ultimately freed him was newly discovered evidence where the technology advanced to the stage where you could test the DNA, In this case, we’re looking for technology to do the same kind of thing, to show that the evidence at the original trial really did not mean what the state was arguing that it meant and what the jury believed that it meant.”
Many of us are outraged and feel afraid and let down by the justice system, it is time to direct that negativity and turn it into something positive, together we can help. I feel that if we can raise enough money, we can put this towards finding new evidence and to fund lawyers to finally have the retrial Steven and Brendan deserve.
