Heartbreak’s journey began in 1991 with “A Rattle of a Simple Man” performed in Warwickshire hotel lounges and village halls to a handful of people. Now, 27 years on, we are widely renowned and respected by audiences for our tours of innovative and dynamic open-air theatre to audiences across the UK and Ireland. Over 40,000 people experienced a Heartbreak show in 2018 with 99.8% rating us the top score of 'excellent'.
We create theatre that puts the audience at the heart of the experience, providing excellent entertainment, whilst having fun doing it!
Heartbreak Productions is acclaimed for adaptations of Shakespeare that embody a fresh slant whilst ensuring the original wit, charm and intensity of his text is sustained. We’re proud to have put the Bard at the heart of our work. Since 1991 we have produced 16 of his plays culminating in a musical version of “Love’s Labour’s Lost”. The company has consistently delivered excellent shows, exploring the humanity of Shakespeare’s drama, combining first class storytelling with clarity of verse speaking. In this 21st century universe, our world needs Shakespeare! The stories are pertinent to today’s society with the human frailty and desire to connect being integral to enriching our lives.
Heartbreak's unique storytelling extends beyond the world of the bard, entertaining audiences in 2018 with “The Midnight Gang”, their fourth adaptation of David Walliams' books,
"vivacious performing" (Elementary What’s On), "a wealth of entertaining material" (Stage Reviews) and described as "a dream of a show"(Northumberland Gazette)
Edith Nesbit's family favourite “The Railway Children”,
("energetic and witty" (Elementary What’s On), "The show wasn’t just great for children, there was plenty of comedy and singing for us adults to enjoy. This classic story was retold in the perfect way” (Out and About Mummy.com)
and Jane Austen's romance “Pride and Prejudice”.
("a wonderful experience" (HodgePodgeDays.co.uk) with “engaging storytelling [which is] crystal clear and elegantly drawn"(Stage Reviews) “the best adaptation I’ve ever seen” (Sophie Andrews, Laughing with Lizzie)
Meet The Team in Need of Your Pledges!
Every Pledge Helps!
Heartbreak Productions, "Britain's friendliest and most engaging theatre company" (Sheffield Star newspaper) need your help to support the creative production and adaptation of Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” for a Chinese audience.
We are honoured to have received an invitation to bring this British classic to Chinese audiences at Shanghai International Festival. This is a fantastic opportunity for Heartbreak but we need your help to make this dream a reality. The invitation has come as our summer season comes to its end with only 9 weeks before opening night in Shanghai..!
Consequently we need assistance as our finances are carefully planned and structured to keep ticket prices accessible and we have not budgeted for this adventure.
This is a valuable opportunity for these reasons:
Provides actors/creative team with a chance to experience performing in China.
Sharing one of England’s most prolific playwrights with another culture (as Shakespeare is much more accessible when performed than read (especially in translation!)
Being part of an international cultural platform, sharing new ideas across all artistic mediums.
To explore the possibilities and scope of the power of communication through theatre – transcending language barriers.
A sense of gratitude to everyone who has been part of Heartbreak over the last 27 years, having been selected to represent the UK at this event.
Your pledge will help to pay for:
- The creation and adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
- The rehearsal period including rehearsal space and actors’ wages
- Props and costume for the show
- Insurance and Visas to get the cast to China
Please help Heartbreak on this amazing journey...
Your pledge will make all this possible!
