Hailsham Community Fridge

Aim

To open a Community Fridge which will be used for foodbank clients to enable access to fresh food as well as open to the wider community.

Here at Hailsham Foodbank we already have good links with local food providers and are aware of the end of day waste that they have. We currently are not able to take this but if we purchase a fridge and freezer we will be able to take this food to stop it going to waste and benefit the local community.

Why are we crowdfunding?

The money that we raise will purchase a glass fronted fridge and freezer so that people can see inside before deciding what they want, to stop wasting energy with it being open and closed too often. We will also get some signage designed and some advertising for the Community Fridge.

How much do we need to raise?

The cost of the fridge is £969 so this will be our prime focus with this project but speaking to others with similar projects a freezer is invaluable in preserving the freshness of items for longer and further reducing waste so we are hoping to raise enough funds to purchase a freezer too.

Any additional money will help towards the costs of fuel for collecting the food from the supermarkets and food providers and the running costs of the fridge and freezer.

All food given out at the fridge will be free of charge to everybody.

We've been chosen to take part in the M&S Energy Community Fund competition. We're in with a chance of receiving up to £5,000 match funding subject to hitting the below milestones, with at least 30 supporters!
