Graystone Action Sports Academy Manchester

To create an action sports paradise where riders of all ages and abilities can supercharge their skills.

We did it!

On 11th Apr 2018 we successfully raised £59,730 of £50,000 target with 151 supporters in 33 days

New stretch target

Thank you! We have achieved our initial target and all funds will be invested in the development of Graystone Action Sports Academy Manchester.

With the new stretch target, the more money we are able to raise the more will be directly invested in making Graystone Action Sports Academy Manchester the best facility it can possibly be.

Thank you can so much for all of the support and pledges so far.

All the best

The Graystone Team x

Have you ever wondered how everyone at the Olympics or X Games got that good? Or ever wanted to nail that trick so badly but you are sick of eating dirt? We are building a facility which can help.

What are we building?

Inspired by the world's leading action sports brands and destinations, Graystone Action Sports Academy Manchester will be a 35,000 sqft indoor action sports paradise packed with ramps, jumps, foam pits, trampolines, a bowl, multiple pump tracks, parkour terrain, sprung floor area, skate plaza, climbing wall, digital media studios, dance and yoga studio and Ninja Warrior course and the UK's first and only big air to foam pit. And of course a place to get your equipment serviced and grab something to eat and drink.

Where are we located?

We are within walking distance of Manchester city centre and within a one-hour drive-time of most of the North West. We are just off the M602 if you are coming by car and have loads of parking. We are less than five-minutes walk from Salford Crescent railway station if you are coming by train.

Why are we building it?

Because 140 million people in Europe between the ages of 15-34 now participate in the four biggest action sports of  snowboard, ski, skateboard and surf.

Because skateboard, freestyle BMX, free ski, snowboard and sport climbing are all now Olympic Sports.

Because we believe that education is much more than just sitting in a classroom.

Because we want to increase the youth participation in sports and combat the health issues impacting our children.

Who is it for?

Anyone who wants to use it, from beginner to pro. You can come to us to learn or improve at skateboard, BMX, free ski, snowboard, scooter, parkour and climbing. We will also have dedicated spaces for dance, cheer, video production, digital photography and music recording.

In a typical week we will welcome free riding indviduals, groups of friends, schools, clubs, universities, events, competitions, corporate groups, top action sports professionals and GB Olympic athletes.

How does it work?

We help you to achieve your goals in action sports by combining world-class training facilities and the latest training techniques within a nurturing and controlled environment.

Members progress quicker with us than on the street or in a park or on the slopes because they are riding with pros, with the guidance of qualified coaches in an energetic, inspiring and enriching reduced-risk environment.

Everyone will need to become a member and have an induction so they understand how to get the best out of the facility. Free ride sessions will then be available on a pay-to-play basis. We will also offer classes, private tuition and day camps in the school holidays.

What will we do?

We will create a world-class facility built on a foundation of creativity, passion and progression.

We will embrace all elements of lifestyle and action sports, including media, music, art & fashion.

We will bring education into the 21st century by engaging with Greater Manchester schools to provide an activity-based curriculum.

We will support the progression of the technical performance of our Olympic athletes and maximise opportunities for talent spotting and cross-pollination between culturally harmonious sports.

We will engage with clubs and organisations throughout the UK to offer them cutting edge facilities.

We will engage with the local community to get youth back into sports.

Who will be our partners?

- GB Park & Pipe Ski & Snowboard will use Graystone as their training academy.

- Parkour Generations, the largest global provider of parkour training, will use Graystone as their dedicated North West HQ.

- We will be a training facility for other new wave Olympic sports, including skateboard and freestyle BMX, training elite Olympic athletes and identifying grassroots athletes.

Who are we?

Co-Founders Ben Livingstone, Kevin Gray and David McCabe are a group of three individuals with a unique skill set. Action sports first brought us together in the mountains more than 20 years ago. Since then we have been scattered across the world following careers in education, hospitality and development and are now making a long overdue return. We are all passionate about action sports, education and the future of our youth.

Why we would love your support?

1. To raise the last bit of cash we need for the £1.5 million fit out.

2. To let us know you want this as much as we do.

3. To help hit our planned opening date of Autumn 2018.

Support we already have for the scheme:

Billy Morgan - Bronze Medallist in Snowboard Big Air Pyeongchang 2018 “It all comes down to facilities and we need more if we want to push the sport further. Freestyle academies have been popping up all over the world and it would be amazing if we had something like that.

Lesley McKenna - GB Park & Pipe Ski and Snowboard Programme Manager - "The GB Park and Pipe Team are looking forward to training at the Graystone Action Sports Academy. This facility will provide a unique training environment in the UK for Elite and Performance Pathway level athletes. Reduced risk training centres for Park and Pipe events in ski and snowboard are now an essential component of the training calendar for those athletes who are already at world class level or who are aspiring to reach world class level. They are also brilliant for introducing people to freesports and cross pollination and learning between the different activities."

Dan Edwardes - Parkour Generations - "This place is definitely the future for action sports in the UK."

Gina McCabe - Project Manager - Whitehaven Harbour Trust - "In recent years, healthy risk (along with its resulting excitement, fun and powerful learning opportunities) has been largely eliminated from an education system that operates well within its comfort zone. Facilities like Graystone Action Sports Academy are craved by a generation who live and learn too far from the edge."

Chris Wright - Head of Wellbeing - Youth Sport Trust - "Grow children and give them the ABC's of agility, balance and coordination.  Grow children to have the foundations of movement and physical literacy."
