Goodfellow Way Garden for the elderly
Not quite
Unfortunately this project was not successful.

We are raising money to fund the renewal of a communal garden that serves the elderly residents of a small estate in Dover.

I'm Philip Gahan, a resident of Goodfellow Way in Dover UK. This is a small Dover District Council owned estate of flats built in the 1980's for those over 55 years old who have health issues and need 24 Hour easy access to emergency assistance when needed. We have residents with various medical conditions, some are incurable and life shortening, others with physical and mental disabilities making it difficult to get around.  Despite this we are a cheery lot who get on with life as best we can. Most of us here are in the 70s to 90s age group.

Our meeting area is a garden that is now looking abandoned. Until recently a wonderful couple and their young son who were our immediate neighbours looked after the garden for us but they have now moved away.  The local council do their best but only manage to cut the grass and then it is crudely done due the councils limited budgets and resources. I have found myself (somehow) taking over the care of the garden along with others who are the more able bodied amongst us, and we don't mind, it is something we enjoy, and it benefits all of us, but we need tools and supplies for the garden.

I have tried scrounging bits and pieces from local business including the likes of B&Q and others but they have little or nothing to offer. The garden has a several large lawns that needs a petrol mower to make the job manageable along with a strimmer. I also need to replace the dilapidated and temporary fencing, build raised beds to make it easier for those who like to get their hands in the soil and do some planting. Most importantly seating and shade! We only have one small and wonky bench no parasols. We used to have birthday parties and barbecues in the garden, but again that has become a thing of the past and it is something we need to bring back.  I know trying to raise money this way is a bit of a long shot buy I'm happy to try anything right now.

Please help me put this garden back together again so that my friends and neighbours can sit together, support each other, chat and put the world to rights, have a cup of tea and remember those we miss before the lights go out for the last time.

Thank you in advance for your help
