I'm a scientist specialising in public health, which means I spend my life thinking about how social inequalities impact on people's health and wellbeing, and imagining what the world could look like if those inequalities were reduced.
A Londoner born and bred, I want my home town to be the world's first city where every resident and visitor enjoys equal rights and opportunities, and where every person can live up to their potential. But, while we may be proud that #LondonIsOpen, the sad reality is it's more open to some than to others.
We urgently need more diverse voices in the London Assembly to make sure that the decisions that affect all of us, reflect all of us. That's why I'm standing as the candidate for City and East to represent the only political party that literally has equality at its heart - the Women's Equality Party.
The GLA’s primary purpose is to hold the Mayor of London to account by scrutinising his or her actions and decisions.
The Mayor’s remit covers housing, transport, planning, crime and policing, fire services and the economy/investment.
Currently, the GLA is dominated by members of the main establishment political parties. If we are going to transform London for women, we need to transform the GLA.
The 2020 GLA campaign offers a historical opportunity for WE candidates to join the London Assembly for the first time, firmly planting feminist voices into London's political scene. Unlike in general elections, the electoral system ("proportional representation") does allow smaller parties to win seats - no vote is "wasted".
In 2016, WE came within a hair's breadth of winning a seat, despite having only existed for a few months. WE can build on that result, and with a good campaign, we are confident that WE members will be elected to the GLA in May 2020 - and you can help make that happen!
Political campaigning is expensive. As a new and small (albeit, rapidly growing) party, WE simply don't have the money nor media connections that the mainstream parties enjoy, which makes it harder to compete. WE need your help to put up the best campaign we can.
Please donate whatever you can to support our campaign and join the fight for equality.
