Aim

To buy this historically important Cup, presented to George Dewhurst on 1832 and put it on display in his home town for the public to see

George Dewhurst was born in Blackburn and fought for Reform and workers rights all his life. In 1832 his followers and supporters bought him a silver cup in recognition of his campaigning. It was an unusual thing to do and a very precious item for a working class man to own. It was passed down from family member to family member but eventually lit was ost trvak of, either sold or milaid until recently discovered in an antique dealers in Bristol. Now descendenta and supporters of George are crowdfunding to buy the cup back and donate it to go on display for everyone to see. Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Jim Shorrocks, is also supporting the fundraising initiative after we recently visited him with the cup.
