Fruitbat Textiles is moving! Aiming to create a more productive and efficient work space for myself and my customers.
Frutibat Textiles is an award winning handcrafted business based in somerset with a passion for traditional craftsmanship and skills.
My name is Charlotte and (with the help of a couple of volunteers) I create everything from scratch in my little studio. I am a hand weaver, dyer and milliner and make beautiful bespoke pieces for every occasion.
The business started in 2015 after I graduated from the University of the Creative Arts in Farnham with a degree in Textiles for Fashion and Interiors, specialising in woven textiles. Since then the business has created items featured in Somerset Life magazine, Muddy Stiletto's Little Black Book of businesses and Marry Me Ink's alternative bridal blog.
Due to the success of the business so far, I have outgrown my current studio space. This is obviously fantastic on one hand but on the other, it is now effecting my level of productivity and ability to deliver workshops effectively.
This campaign is to help me move to a larger space. We have already found the perfect building (just next door!!) that we will be sharing with some other very talented people. However, this space needs a lot of TLC to be able to use the space effectively.
Within this space walls need to come down, some more need to go up, a dye lab needs to be built and plumbed in, floors need to go down, as well as the usual painting and decorating stuff! I am incredibly lucky to already be equipped with the essential tools needed for my craft, which require more funds to sustain and obtain in the first place. In the grand scheme of things, compared to my large loom for example, this campaign doesn't require a huge amount of money. However neither myself nor the business have the income to fund this at the moment so thats why I am asking for your help!! The video attached shows the space as it is at the moment. It is situated within an old victorian lace mill.
As a passionate traditional craftsperson I understand how difficult the industry is to get into, particularly in Somerset. I hope the expansion of my business will one day be able to help other passionate creatives get a foot in the door.
In return for your generosity, I will be offering up some great discounts on products and workshops as well as inviting you all to the opening of our brand new space.
In addition to this, as a gesture of my gratitude, I will be designating a little bit of the studio walls to all the names of those that helped make the space possible.
I look forward to seeing you all at the opening event, and thank you from the bottom of my heart in advance for making my dreams come true!!
