Become a Friend of LALY17!
Last year, the LALY awards broke new ground by crowdfunding sponsorship for the Legal Aid Newcomer award, which celebrates the vital and inspiring work done by newer entrants to our profession.
We were bowled over by the response, which confirmed the specialness of the LALY awards, so we have decided to crowdfund sponsorship again this year.
As before, you can become a Friend of LALY17 from as little as £10. All donors will be rewarded with a mention in the ceremony programme, on screen on the night, and on social media. (Donors can also opt for anonymity, if they prefer.)
67 people and/or organisations donated to become Friends of LALY16. They ranged from trainees, to senior members of the judiciary, to individual firms and chambers. The sums given were from £10 to £500, and we raised a whopping £4,006 (against our original target of £3,000).
With your help, this year we hope to do even better!
All the money raised will go towards the cost of staging the event (which is non-profit-making) and to help us keep ticket prices as affordable as possible.
Friends of LALY17 will be listed in the order in which their donations were made.
Since they were launched in 2003 by the Legal Aid Practitioners Group, the Legal Aid Lawyer of the Year (LALY) awards have been a grassroots celebration of the important and often life-changing work done by publicly-funded lawyers.
This year’s ceremony will be held on 5 July 2017 in central London.
To keep our admin costs to a minimum, all donations must be made via the crowdfunder site.
The deadline for Friends of LALY17 donations is 17 April 2017 (which differs from the date for the close of awards nominations of 28 April 2017).
To nominate someone for a LALY award, go to our online nomination form.
All the winners, including Legal Aid Newcomer, will be announced at the ceremony on 5 July 2017.
Tickets for the ceremony are available on a strictly first come, first served basis. It is always our policy to give a set number of free tickets to each year’s finalists, which means the tickets we have available to sell are very limited. Please note, being a Friend of LALY17 does not guarantee the right to attend the ceremony. To purchase tickets please visit our Eventbrite page.
