Offer free Doula support to be people directly in their own homes, in Hospital or in Care homes. Build awareness within every community about 'Livingwelldyingwell' & encourage an on -going conversation.

We are made up of a wonderful group of people all across the UK who are committed to help people deal with death & dying differently. In this current crisis we are offering free telephone ( 24hrs a day) support to people in their own homes, hospitals & hospices, care & nursing homes.

The money will be used to raise the profile of this free helpline & increase the awareness of the role of an End of life Doula.

Doulas are the bookends of life - Just as a Birth Doula is there at the beginning, an End of Life Doula is there for the end.  Meaning that the last months or weeks or days are compassionate, calm, natural and as normal as can be.

In just a few weeks, we have listened to and supported people in many different ways. Here are just a few anonymised stories.

A person living with cancer who received a call from their Consultant to say that after recent scans there was no more treatment that could be given.  They were feeling very alone and unsupported and wanted to have a conversation about how life could be for them now, having received this information.  We talked through what they could do to feel supported and less abandoned during lock down and how they could plan for the future to die at home.  We will stay in touch with them talking at least once a week and more if necessary.

A call from a daughter living in America with an elderly mother living alone in Cornwall.  The daughter was concerned about what would happen if her Mum contracted COVID.   We were able to provide reassurance that there was a Doula close by who could act as an intermediary with local knowledge of what health and social care provision would be available. He would be able to activate the support should Mum become unwell.  We also connected with a local community group who were able to do regular shopping and to make sure she had a regular delivery of the special  ice cream she liked to have at the end of each day.
