Match Funding Appeal: Help Chefs in Schools ensure that vulnerable children are fed during this challenging time.
No child should go hungry because of the Coronavirus crisis. We are working with schools and other organisations to ensure nutritious meals reach children and families in greatest need. Thanks to the generosity of the Kusuma Trust all donations will be matched so your support will go twice as far!
Chefs in Schools is supporting schools to produce weekly meal packages, made by talented chefs and volunteers, for vulnerable families. Pictured below, these crates contain enough fresh produce, home cooked meals and other essentials such as bread and pasta to feed families for a week.
So far, we have been working with nine schools in the Hackney area to feed children on Free School Meals. In the first week, 380 food packages were created to provide 7,500 meals to the community. There are many more schools and families who need our help. We need your support to reach them.
Why is this important?
The Food Foundation’s latest YouGov survey found that millions of people in the UK are already struggling to get the food they need and falling into debt because of the coronavirus pandemic.
It also found that 54% of parents with children eligible for Free School Meals haven't received any substitute meals, despite promised food voucher/parcels provisions - 830,000 children could be missing out on the daily sustenance they need.
About Chefs in Schools
We train chefs and kitchen teams to run school kitchens with the efficiency, and passion for food, of a top restaurant. Chefs make amazing food from scratch and also teach the pupils to cook. This approach radically transforms the quality of food children eat and teaches essential life skills.
