LGBTQ+ people are more likely to experience poor mental health. The Covid19 Crisis means mental health support is more important than ever. Support ELOP to provide lifesaving mental health services to the LGBT+ Community.
For many LGBTQ+ people, COVID-19 and the related safety measures have turned life upside down. Social isolation, separation from loved ones and support systems, being trapped with LGBTphobic family members, increased health anxiety, financial uncertainty and the inability to access specialist services are now a reality.
The impact this pandemic is having on LGBTQ+ people’s mental health won’t end once we find a vaccine. Our community will continue to feel the effects of this crisis for a long time to come.
A 2018 survey by Stonewall shows that half of lesbian, gay and bi people said they’ve experienced depression in the year prior, and 71% of trans people experienced the same.
That’s why dedicated LGBTQ+ counselling and mental health support services like East London Out Project (ELOP) are so important - and why we need to do everything we can to support them through this difficult time.
25 years of serving the LGBTQ+ community
ELOP has been providing the LGBTQ+ community with 'pay what you can afford', accessible and lifesaving mental health support and counselling for 25 years. The need for the vital services ELOP provides continues to increase, while lockdown has made providing those services increasingly difficult.
With your donations, ELOP will be able to provide additional mental health support through their online groups, online counselling and also respond to those who don't have access to online facilities. This will mean that more LGBTQ+ people are able to access the support they desperately need.
We are a group of ELOP service users and supporters who want to raise money to ensure that a charity that means so much to us can continue its life-saving work throughout the coronavirus crisis and beyond.
Now it’s time for us to support them, so they can support us.
