New stretch target

We are seeking to improve our outdoor courtyard space so that we can host sports therapy, Green therapy, Pilates, mental wellbeing and outdoor recreation focused on the disabled and elderly who want to feel in a 'safe space' whilst exercising.

Extra monies raised will help fund a disabled toilet/changing facility and upgrade to the yard patio infrastructure as well as provide yoga mats and exercise equipment suitable for the disabled and elderly.

What is needed to convert our space to increase our capacity:

  • £6,500 to convert an outside building into a disabled toilet and changing room.
  • £2,000 for a new patio which will enable wheelchair and disability access.
  • £1,000 for a sun canopy which can also be used as a rain shelter.
  • £500 for equipment such as Pilates Mats, Bean Bags, Resistance Bands..etc.

Thanks for your continued support

UPDATE - We have reached our initial target but need more help

Cherishers 811 CIC is rooted in rural Staffordshire and provides care and support in that area. We empower the Elderly & Disabled to stay active while living with a disability.  We respond to the community needs by providing focused care, community and sports therapy activities for free, on demand.

Cherishers is Community led as we truly give a voice to those who need care in our community. We deliver activity in areas experiencing social and economic deprivation, as a rural community and focus on support for disabled people, and those from lower socio-economic groups. This includes home care, shopping, collecting prescriptions and sports therapy activities such as Adapted Chair Based Aerobics , Adapted Zumba, Adapted Pilates and Stretching for The Elderly.

Our community space currently can host 8 vulnerable people -  and as well as improving the fitness of the of our elderly community, our adaptive sport initiatives help tackle loneliness by removing isolation.

Our adaptive sport activities have been a great way to overcome social isolation and something that people of all ages can get involved with. Such activities are even a good way for those in who attend our wellbeing room to come together and participate on a regular basis.

Some of the adaptive sports we provide:

•              Adapted Chair Based Aerobics

•              Adapted Volleyball: Using a fabric covered inflatable ball and bunting in place of an official net.

•              Adapted Weightlifting: using resistance exercises using foam pool noodles, and the use of everyday objects such as water bottles as hand weights.

•              Adapted Boccia: modified them for older adult settings, by using of bean bags in place of specialist bowling balls.

•              Adapted Zumba

•              Adapted Pilates

•              Stretching for The Elderly

We have an outside courtyard at the back of our community shop in which we would like to convert into a space that can welcome 20 vulnerable members at any time for adaptive sports activities, increasing capacity by 150%

What is needed to convert our space to increase our capacity:

£6,500 to convert an outside building into a disabled toilet and changing room.

  • £2,000 for a new patio which will enable wheelchair and disability access.
  • £1,000 for a sun canopy which can also be used as a rain shelter.
  • £500 for equipment such as Pilates Mats, Bean Bags, Resistance Bands..etc

Thank you so much in anticipation for your support.

Who we are

Cherishers 811 CIC is a non-profit organisation that employees disadvantaged and disabled individuals to provide domestic and commercial ironing and cleaning contracts in Staffordshire and through profits generated provides free Social Care community services to the elderly and societies most vulnerable members. We are a non-profit organisation that donates all profits from the cleaning and ironing business to fund the FREE community home care we deliver. We also use funds to promote social inclusion such as ‘No one should be alone at Christmas’ lunches. We also have a art therapy facility which can host art and alternative therapies.

Throughout the Covid pandemic – we have been there – providing care, reassurance, company and comfort. We continue to provide services in a COVID-19-secure manner and have seen a huge increase in demands for our services, including shopping, collecting prescriptions and accompanying doctors appointments.

“When I was at a low point in my life somebody was there to help me”. We are that help.

What we are trying to achieve?

Cherishers already help build community resilience and connectivity reaching those desperate for support, isolated, mentally vulnerable and often elderly or with caring demands of young families. But we have huge demands on our service and we need your help!

This funding will be a lifeline for Cherishers as a non-profit organisation that employees disadvantaged and disabled individuals to provide domestic and commercial ironing and cleaning contracts around Staffordshire. We provide free Social Care community services to the elderly and societies most vulnerable members, in particular elderly women aged 60 years old and above.

With unprecedented rises in calls for help, including vulnerable socially excluded people not being able to pay for the shopping they need, and not buying themselves necessities for self care – they are also not getting the companionship they crave. We cannot turn away people requesting help and we know the financial struggle will get worse – more people need help. We need to continually invest and adapt to future Covid-secure processes and need more staff to assist with caring duties and well as the ability to provide support in the way of shopping, cleaning and also food and care provisions. Our carers create a care community for these vulnerable people – so they know they are not alone.

What makes our project great?

Our project is great because of the real difference it makes to the lives of those that are the most isolated and vulnerable, either through age, disability or being single parents. We offer a FREE SHOPPING SERVICE!!  Where you can call us up to place your shopping list, we shop or collect prescriptions and we then leave shopping on your doorstep. This project funding will increase the number of care/shopping/ befriending visits we can provide by funding the salaries of 2 carers and 2 support workers . The funding will provide the ability to not only continue this essential and in-demand work, but reach out to 210 more vulnerable people on an ongoing basis. Cherishers provides care plans, and befrienders who build relationships of trust so that care be delivered in an environment of understanding individual needs. Not only will the project provide care and companionship within the vulnerable persons home, but we will also provide 30 COVID-19 pamper boxes of self-care supplies, 30 hampers of food and toiletries and we will create an emergency food fund, therefore enabling the organisation to help an estimated additional 210 or more vulnerable people.

However much money we raise - we will use to provide care and companionship, the more that is donated - the more people we can help!

Cherishers puts belief into action: taking a holistic approach, engaging with physical, emotional, and practical needs, offering services without discrimination.

Our purpose

Cherishers befriend the vulnerable-many aged 60-80+. We also support single parents. We provide employment opportunities to females with disabilities, working mum's, pensioners and people getting back into employment.

Cherishers have been offering COVID-19 response transport services, which have been working door to door-helping people to attend GP or hospital appointments, or make use of escorted shopping services, for example. Through the use of wheelchair-accessible vehicles, these transportation services have provided a sense of comfort and consistency to users, and also reduced pressure on the NHS in an already incredibly stressful situation. By providing transport, it reduces the requests made to local hospitals for hospital provision transit in the form of ambulances. These transport services regularly operate to local hospitals across the area.

Befriending schemes have also been increased, many of which also occur where the befriender acts as a chaperone or travelling companion for those that require it. Elderly people who are frail or have mobility problems, or those that are living in particularly isolated locations with limited or infrequent public transport have been given priority for these services to try and effectively provide provision for those most in need. These activities aim to support the major UK crises of both lack of employment and social care provision. All of these services contribute to increasing the confidence of both the people needing the support and their external support networks (friends or family) by providing company and reassurance and maintaining consistency in the aid that is available to them. Because there are no others providing a similar service in Lichfield, it means that for many people, Cherishers is their only option for support like this. During the coronavirus outbreak, Cherishers have also been offering food delivery services and food parcels for those struggling. Prescription collections have also increased in uptake as people have been shielding, and are therefore unable to get out. This service has helped to greatly reduced anxiety in the individuals that the charity helps, as the prescriptions collected are of great importance to the health and lifestyle of the users, and regular delivery of these can be integral.

What will we spend the money on?

We help build community resilience and connectivity reaching those desperate for support, isolated, mentally vulnerable and often elderly or with caring demands of young families.

With unprecedented rises in demand, including people not being able to pay for the shopping they need which we have collected. We cannot turn away people requesting help and we know the financial struggle will get worse – more need help. We need to continually invest and adapt to future Covid-secure processes.

The funding will support the salaries of 2 carers and 2 support workers, in addition to the provision of 30 COVID-19 pamper boxes, 30 hampers and an emergency food fund, therefore enabling the organisation to help an estimated additional 210 or more vulnerable people. However please donate what you can, every donation will help provide care and the more we raise the more we can help others.

1617790660_cherishers_5.jpg

The funding will help to maintain our caring provision which is under exceptional demand, with over 1000 calls received during the lockdown and many more people seeking befriending, care support and emergency food parcels. We want to help even more people by extending our befriending service and providing counselling / mental health awareness for staff /volunteers regarding challenges due to isolation.

The funding will be so essential and will support the salaries of 2 carers and 2 support workers, in addition to the provision of 30 COVID-19 pamper boxes, 30 hampers and an emergency food fund, therefore enabling the organisation to help an estimated additional 210 or more vulnerable people.

We want to help even more people by extending our befriending service and provide more support where it is desperately needed. Everything that is donated helps us achieve this.

A word from our cherished community:

“Dear Cherishers,
Thank you for much for the befriending service that you have provided me with over the past 6 months. As someone who is registered blind and has severe Multiple Sclerosis, I don’t know how I would have managed without your assistance. During this pandemic, your support has been a lifeline to me and an assurance to my distant family that I am being looked after. I simply cannot thank you enough you are wonderful people!”

“To all the lovely team at Cherishers thank you so for much for all the shopping that you have done each week for us. When the 2nd lockdown came just didn’t know how we would manage, we were fearful and afraid. Yet you beautiful stepped up and provided us with care, companionship and showed us true community spirit! We will always be appreciative of your support during this difficult time”.

“Cherishers what a kind-hearted, selfless and compassionate team! My mother and I both contacted COVID and was rushed into hospital (intensive care). Sadly, my mother died, and I survived however I was left physically disabled from the disease. After surviving Covid and coming home following 3 months in hospital you provided me with the support to rebuild my life! Yet nothing has been too much for you… from Hospital appointments, doctor trips, cleaning my home, picking up my prescriptions and doing my shopping! I can honestly say that without your friendship and services I don’t think I would have wanted to face the world anymore! I am able to move on from the loss of my Mother knowing that I have a new family with the team at Cherishers who genuinely care THANK YOU”

“Thank you, Cherishers, for taking me to my hospital appointments and to get my COVID vaccination! Being 86yrs old and unable to drive the thought of having to catch 3 different busses to get to my appointment during this pandemic terrified me greatly! Yet your friendly carers Sharon & Sarah have been incredible… I am so grateful”

Thank you again on behalf of Cherishers for all of your support - it means so much!
