The Breck Foundation was set up in response to the tragic murder of Breck Bednar, a 14 -year-old Surrey boy who loved science, computing, and gaming.
No one would have expected Breck to be a victim of grooming: he was an 'A' Grade student from a loving family.
Breck and his friends were groomed by a young man who ran an internet gaming server. They were told an elaborate web of lies to gain their trust. Despite many attempts to stop her son from contacting the predator, and to alert him to the fact that he was being groomed, Lorin LaFave was unable to prevent her son’s murder in February 2014.
Breck had ignored the safety advice he had been given by friends and family, and was lured to the predator’s flat by fake promises and lies.
As a result of the tragedy, Lorin founded the Breck Foundation, determined that no other family should have to go through the same ordeal. The charity now delivers powerful presentations using Breck’s story as an example; last year it reached more than 20,000 students, 4,000 parents and 7,000 safeguarding professionals.
I was first introduced to the Breck Foundation in October 2018. I received training on how to use this powerful story as a tool to teach students about internet safety and grooming. Since then I have worked with the charity to develop three books which are due to be released in October 2020
As part of the educational package I am creating I would like to produce three songs based on the events of the story to help engage learners and help them understand the emotions behind the story.
Each song will reflect a different person in the Breck tragedy. Brecks Mother Lorin, Breck the victim and Lewis the predator.
Funds raised will go to producing the songs, getting the rights to the music, time for the singers in a professional studio with sound engineer, work with editor and sound mixer, and then releasing them onto streaming sites making them widely avaliable to teachers and parents, making an easy way to discuss the emotional side to the Breck story.
Any additional funds will go to recording and editing of possible music videos.
Thank you for your support and kindness in advance
