Sounds of the City Charity Bandstand Bash

Aim

I want to make people aware of the impacts mental health has in today's society, whilst hosting a music event for the local community.

One in four people in the UK experience mental health issues per year. Mental health problems are one of the largest causes of disease burden worldwide, accounting for ~28% in the UK, larger than cancer and heart disease. It is now well known however, that mental health services in the UK are severely overstretched, suffer from significant waiting times and lack of services. This is further compounded by a lack of investment that shows no signs of changing.  This problem is further highlighted in young people, with more children and young people than ever before reaching out for help. Young Minds is the UK’s leading charity in the fight for children and young people’s mental health. 

The charity helps to ensure that the most vulnerable get the help they need and make sure that professionals are provided with more support than ever before. It is crucial that they continue to receive help and support themselves from donations and fundraising efforts. It is with that in mind that we have decided to run one of our own and help raise some money in the fight for good mental health. 

I’m co-founder of a Newcastle based events project called “Sounds of the City”. We are a non-profit organisation that aims to bring unique underground music events to the city. After holding talks with a local architect, we are able to put on one of our shows in the heart of the Ouseburn community at the newly constructed bandstand, all for free! We aim to provide a feel-good environment with plenty of music and revelry for an entire day in the sun, all whilst helping to fundraise for YoungMinds UK.  It is with that in mind that we have opened up an online fundraiser with (Insert Company Here). This page will serve as an online donation hub, where we hope to raise as much as we can with your support. If you are planning on attending (or if you just want to support YoungMinds UK) then please, consider making a donation (no matter how small) to this page (every penny counts!). We have set up the event to ensure that as much of the proceeds from fundraising can reach YoungMinds UK as possible. All DJ’s will be playing for free, and bandstand hire has been secured in advance without cost. The only fundraising efforts needed to put this on is for licensing fees and equipment hire. We hope to give something back to the ouseburn community, whilst making everyone feel welcome. What better way to connect everyone together, than a day of music and dancing in the sunshine!
